The Advancement Operations team has an exciting opening for a Business Analyst. This is a full-time, permanent position. 

The Business Analyst (BA) will work within cross-functional teams to understand existing business processes, identify process improvements, gather and document requirements, liaise between stakeholders and developers, and help drive projects from inception to completion. The BA will be a key member of the Business Analysis Office (BAO) focused on a wide range of projects across University Advancement, including CRM product improvements and University-wide data integrations.

What You Will Do:

Business Analysis (65%)

  • Gather and analyze business requirements from stakeholders using interviews, workshops and other techniques.
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources to reconcile conflicts and prioritize requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into functional specifications, process flows, data maps and other relevant documentation.
  • Identify potential project risks and obstacles which may hinder the successful completion of deliverables and achievement of goals.
  • Evaluate processes, identify improvement opportunities, and implement required updates and enhancements.
  • Provide timely stakeholder support, including tracking issues and maintaining effective communication.
  • Balance complex and competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Project Management (10%)

  • Lead projects that fall outside of the Information Management team’s typical portfolio of work. Oversee project ideation and execution, including planning, task and scope management, status reporting and communication to ensure successful implementation of deliverables.
  • Collaborate with other project managers to strategize meeting agendas and set project scope for projects that meet PMO standards for support
  • Provide collaborative support to the PMO team throughout the duration of a project by assisting with stakeholder management and conflict resolution.

Quality Assurance & Support (20%)

  • Develop acceptance criteria for all new product backlog items and user stories.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to review open questions related to test cases and bugs.
  • Assist end-users by troubleshooting system problems and addressing open questions.

Other Duties (5%)

  • Participate in relevant UW and University Advancement events, activities, working groups and communities of practice.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems or related field AND four years of experience in information technology.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

What You Bring:

  • Business analysis experience, including requirements elicitation and documentation, workflow development, wireframing, participation in solution design, and product quality management through testing and validation.
  • Strong problem-solving, analysis and project management skills, with an ability to implement solutions, work independently, think analytically, take initiative and set priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google platforms, such as Visio.
  • Ability to perform data analysis, including querying standard databases using SQL.
  • Understanding of data modeling and database architecture.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
  • Must have regular and reliable transportation for local travel and willing to travel when necessary.
