Why join us

Joining our Buying teams at Sainsbury’s General Merchandise means becoming an integral part of our mission to deliver exceptional retail experiences through our wide range of products. As a friendly and passionate team, we are dedicated to fulfilling our ambitious growth plans while maintaining a great work-life balance for our colleagues. With a flexible approach to working hours and the opportunity to work from home, we prioritise your well-being and ensure that you can create a schedule that suits your needs. As a Buying Admin Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive support to the team, from analysing competitor pricing to maintaining data accuracy. With opportunities for learning, growth, and exposure to market trends and customer insights, joining us means being part of a dynamic environment where your skills and contributions are valued.

What you’ll do

You will play a pivotal role in supporting the team to deliver our growth plans and provide our customers with a great range of products at competitive prices. You will be responsible for providing comprehensive administrative support, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and within company timelines to drive overall performance in the business unit. Your key responsibilities will include reviewing competitor pricing to maintain our competitive position, creating and maintaining data integrity for category SKUs, adhering to buying milestones to ensure timely launches, liaising with suppliers to chase samples and key information, and preparing approvals for Senior Buyer/Buyer/Assistant Buyer. Additionally, you will conduct competitor shop reports and provide feedback to the team. Your strong numerical skills, proficiency in Excel and Word, great stakeholder management, excellent administrative and organisational abilities, and interest in commerciality will contribute to your success in this role. You should also be adaptable to fast-changing environments and stay knowledgeable about market trends, the competitor landscape, and our target customers. At Sainsbury’s, we value work-life balance and offer flexibility and trust in how, where, and when you work, ensuring you have plenty of time and space for life outside of work while still achieving our business goals.

Who you are

You are a highly organised and detail-oriented individual with a passion for supporting the delivery of growth plans and providing excellent administrative support. Your strong numerical skills and ability to analyse and interpret data allow you to effectively review competitor pricing, maintain data integrity, and contribute to maintaining our competitive position in the market. With your proficiency in Excel and Word, you ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks, adhering to buying milestones within critical paths to ensure on-time launches. Your excellent stakeholder management, organisational ability, and adaptability in fast-changing environments enable you to effectively liaise with suppliers, chase samples, and provide valuable support to the team. Your interest in commerciality, knowledge of market trends, competitor environment, and target customers, further enhance your contributions to the buying team.

We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer, so you’ll be welcomed whoever you are and wherever you work. Around here, there’s always the chance to try something new – whether that’s as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business – and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working. When you join our team, we’ll also offer you an amazing range of benefits. Here are some of them:

Starting off with colleague discount, you’ll be able to get 10% off at Sainsbury’s, Argos, TU and Habitat after 4 weeks. This increases to 15% off at Sainsbury’s every Friday and Saturday and 15% off at Argos every pay day. We’ve also got you covered for your future with our pensions scheme and life cover. You’ll also be able to share in our success as you may be eligible for a performance-related bonus of up to 5% of salary, depending on how we perform.

Your wellbeing is important to us too. You’ll receive an annual holiday allowance, and you can buy additional holiday. We also offer other benefits that will help your money go further such as season ticket loans, cycle to work scheme, health cash plans, pay advance (where you can access some of your pay before pay day) as well access to a great range of discounts from hundreds of other retailers. And if you ever need it there is also an employee assistance programme.

Moments that matter are as important to us as they are to you which is why we give up to 26 weeks’ pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks’ pay for paternity leave.

Please see www.sainsburys.jobs for a range of our benefits (note, length of service and eligibility criteria may apply).

Please note, due to the volume of applications we receive, our roles may close early.

We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. From fragrance to car care, clothing and pots and pans, our General Merchandise team delivers all the non-food items for Sainsbury’s, Habitat and Argos customers. This multi-brand environment means you get to work across most areas. You can also be a pioneer, because the team believes in being brave, iterating and learning as they go. They also develop deep connections to other departments, which opens up a lot of different career opportunities for you. What’s certain is that you’ll spend time on the shop floor to get closer to customers, and bring a broad perspective and the full support of your manager with you wherever you decide to develop next.
