Campaign Director

The Syria Campaign is a small, fast moving and powerful human rights organisation that is building new ways for digital and creative communications to have impact. We work to support Syria’s heroes in the struggle for justice, freedom and democracy, partnering with civil society partners inside and outside the country. We’ve moved beyond the limitations of an “online movement builder” or traditional NGO, fusing the best elements of think tanks, creative agencies and digital mobilization to create real change for Syria.

We’ve raised the profile of Syrian groups like the White Helmets rescue workers, helping secure them millions of dollars to continue their life-saving work and making them famous around the world. We’ve supported the Families for Freedom, a women-led movement of the families of the disappeared in Syria, to ensure their demands are heard and take their ‘Freedom Bus’ across Europe. We work with dozens of partners across Syria who trust us deeply. Syria is full of heroes and we’re privileged enough to work with them. You can read about some of what we’ve done here.

The recent fall of the Assad regime is not just the result of military efforts led by men with guns. For nearly 14 years, Syrian women and men have bravely called for change, despite facing immense challenges. Citizens have endured unimaginable human rights abuses — torture, detention, siege and chemical weapons attacks —yet a strong civil society is at the forefront of the fight for justice and accountability.

Now is a rare and critical moment for Syrians to shape a democratic and inclusive future. We have seen what is possible when civil society pushes forward. There is the potential for Syrians to set the precedent for an inclusive political process, learning from other contexts and finding new ways to unite a traumatised population behind a joint vision. It will not be easy but it will require The Syria Campaign to play a vital role in elevating the voices and demands of survivors, protecting civic space from disinformation, leading creative campaigns that strengthen the global justice movement and monitoring and exposing any human rights abuses by de facto authorities. The Campaign Director will play a leadership role as The Syria Campaign develops new strategies and approaches to achieve our goals.

We are looking for an ambitious and creative Campaign Director who is passionate about playing their part in our overall mission. You’ll be joining our 12-person Syrian and international team, managing a small team of talented campaigners and working for an organisation with a track record of high-impact campaigns.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Leading campaigns with our partners to make their demands heard on the international stage. You’ll be campaigning for accountability and justice for victims and survivors, for an inclusive political transition and reconstruction processes, for the protection of civic space from disinformation, and to support a network of young Syrians who can contribute to leading global advocacy. You’ll work on multiple campaigns simultaneously, from concept through to delivery.
  • Telling the inspiring stories that inspire a movement. You’ll work to mobilise our digital movement of half a million people to take action in solidarity with the demands of our Syrian partners. You will be leading creative campaigns that strengthen the global justice movement and will monitor and expose any human rights abuses by de facto authorities and other groups.
  • Oversee the development of campaign content. This will include email campaigns, videos, graphics and campaign websites with external partners and creative agencies. You will be running experiments, trying different and innovative approaches, and sharing data-driven results.
  • Creating a vision and strategy for a team of talented campaigners. You’ll lead a small team of campaigners and storytellers across multiple locations, bringing fresh approaches to collaboration and campaigning. You’ll also be part of the senior management team, helping steer The Syria Campaign’s overall strategy plans with a particular focus on identifying opportunities for campaigns.
  • Developing and overseeing reporting processes for campaigns to ensure the medium and long-term success of our campaigns. You will manage budgets and project delivery alongside donors and partners and the TSC team
  • Representing The Syria Campaign. You’ll develop relationships with creatives, peers and partners, and act as a media spokesperson when needed.
  • Support fundraising efforts of the organisation by identifying and engaging with prospective donors and participating in proposals development.
  • Contribute to building a collaborative, creative, supportive and happy team culture
