Location/Department: Cardiac Rehab

Part-time: 60 hours per pay period – Benefits Eligible

Job Summary:

Renders professional care to patients in the Cardiac Rehab program in accordance with physician orders & established department policies 7 procedures. Assess patient’s conditions, provides treatment, observes, reports 7 records pertinent observation & response to treatment & exercise. Directs day to day operation of Cardiac Rehab program, responsible for policy & procedures, oversees program quality improvement efforts & administrative functions.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Cardiac Rehab staff

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Uses only approved abbreviations.
  • Understands patient safety goals & actions taken.
  • Demonstrates awareness of patient rights.
  • Uses 2 patient identifiers before giving treatments, demonstrates process.
  • Understands read back of verbal orders/critical lab values & can state process.
  • Understands procedure to clarify physician orders.
  • Uses standing orders when indicated.
  • Reports sentinel events or adverse reactions/incidents as warranted.
  • Perform initial evaluation for entry into program.
  • Codes test for payment of service.
  • Validates CPT and ICD codes that are appropriate for meeting medical necessity.
  • Obtains any further information regarding diagnosis to warrant test if payment is denied.
  • Develop individual exercise prescriptions for patients.
  • Supervise exercise sessions.
  • Verify appropriateness of referral. Gather all needed insurance information. Forward to registration clerk.
  • Provides didactic training to team members & promotes quality care, patient safety through continuing education & competency for cardiac rehab professionals.
  • Provides inpatient & outpatient education regarding cardiac rehab for patient & family.
  • Ensures accuracy of patient charges.
  • Maintains competencies in Cardiac Rehab area.
  • Educates, trains & supervises Cardiac Rehab team members.
  • Policies & procedures are reviewed annually.
  • Maintains proper medical legal documentation.
  • Participates in area specific performance efforts through initiating, tracking, trending & analyzing indicators of quality care & service.
  • Prepares reports for quality improvement reporting, quarterly & annually.
  • Submits annual budget request.
  • Complies with approved budget.
  • Serves as in-house & community resource person & consultant for cardiac rehab services.
  • Works with department manager to improve care & service.
  • Stays current with “Best Practices” & regulatory compliance. Survey ready at all times.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong customer service skills
  • Effectively communicates both verbal & written
  • Self-motivated; team player
  • Able to multi-task & prioritize
  • Structure teaching experience, in depth knowledge of cardiac & pulmonary disease states
  • Leadership skills, ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Requires working with treadmills, ergometers, telemetry equipment, monitors, computers, telephone & various battery operated medical equipment

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Exercise Science or other related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience required.
  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana (when applicable).
  • Must be a Certified Exercise Physiologist/Clinical Exercise Physiologist by the ACSM (when applicable).
  • Certification in American Heart Association BLS & ACLS, including advanced ECG recognition skills. BLS instructor preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent walking, sitting & talking; occasional pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, reaching, manual dexterity & use of hands.
  • Occasionally may need to lift up to 25 lbs
