Case Manager (on-campus)

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The salary range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $102,000 – $127,000.

This is a 100% campus-based position.

The Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD) is responsible for ensuring the University provides an environment that is free from discrimination and harassment (including sexual harassment and sexual violence) based on all protected categories and characteristics. In collaboration with campus partners, OPHD’s work emphasizes a commitment to campus safety, fairness, due process, and trauma-informed practices. In collaboration with campus partners, OPHD’s mission is to educate the UC Merced community on these issues, assist with prevention efforts, help campus departments pursue best practices for fostering a discrimination-free environment, and provide prompt and effective resolution of all complaints. OPHD provides analysis and guidance on all matters related to UC Merced’s compliance with relevant federal and state laws and applicable University of California policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Manage all reports of discrimination and harassment (including sexual harassment and sexual violence) made to OPHD, using CaseIQ (case management system), from intake and assessment through resolution. This includes conducting initial reviews and intakes and determining whether they fall within OPHD’s purview, responding to reports, identifying interim and supportive measures, and providing referrals as needed to campus resources or offices. Together with the Deputy Director, provide the Director with recommendations for courses of action.
2. Maintain CaseIQ and ensure compliance with systemwide protocols. Generate CaseIQ reports to present to campus leadership and for systemwide use. Together with the Deputy Director, analyze and interpret CaseIQ data to identify patterns, trends, and hot spots on campus, and provide recommendations to the Director on how to address them. Represent OPHD at systemwide CaseIQ meetings. Assist with gathering information/documents from CaseIQ for public records and other requests.
3. Together with the Deputy Director, co-chair bi-weekly Case Management Team (CMT) meetings with campus partners. This includes running reports for each CMT and requesting agenda items from campus partners.
4. Update and maintain OPHD website.
5. Monitor compliance with mandatory OPHD-related trainings, including managing SHAPE in CatCourses, lifting holds, and doing outreach to students who are not in compliance.
6. Serve as OPHD’s representative on various campus and systemwide committees and workgroups.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a related area (required); and/or
• Advanced degree from an accredited university (preferred); and
• Three years of directly related experience in case management and Title IX or a related field, and the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities of this position. An advanced degree or JD is preferred, and may substitute for one year of experience (required).

• Excellent skills to exercise professional judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive matters.
• Excellent skills to manage complex electronic case management systems in an office with a heavy caseload and high data volume.
• Excellent skills to comprehend, analyze, and interpret data to generate clear and concise reports to assist management in identifying and responding to patterns and trends on campus.
• Excellent attention to detail; ability to evaluate data for accuracy and completeness.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in a positive manner with a diverse campus community using a high degree of tact, diplomacy, and discretion, with emphasis on flexibility and discretion.
• Strong knowledge of state and federal compliance issues, including discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to present detailed information and analysis in a clear and concise manner both in writing and verbally.
• Strong skills in negotiation, mediation, and decision-making. Demonstrated skills and techniques to recognize problem issues and situations and apply resourcefulness in finding appropriate solutions to implement problem-solving to mitigate potential negative effects and follow-through to ensure effective resolution.
• Strong knowledge of campus administrative structure and functions, policies, procedures, and practices.
• Strong working knowledge of and ability to effectively use/operate word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, database, email, calendar, internet software and applications.
• Ability to make decisions/solve problems exercising professional judgment; establish workload priorities to meet deadlines and work collaboratively and effectively.
• Skills in developing and presenting training material to diverse campus partners.
