General Purpose of Job:
Under direction of a Physician or Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses in the care of patients in the Operating Room.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Maintain knowledge and practice of aseptic technique.
- Assists the circulating nurse in the preparation of surgical procedures and during room turnovers between procedures.
- Prepares sterilefield for surgical procedures, ensuring proper instruments and suppliesare available for use.
- During thesurgical procedure:
- Anticipation ofneeds for surgeon and passing of instruments and supplies;
- Functions asassistant, when needed;
- Obtains counts with circulating nurse;
- Cares forspecimens according to procedure;
- Maintains proper care of instruments and supplies when procedure is finished.
- Maintainsequipment, supplies and environmental safety.
- Maintainsknowledge of current trends in surgical procedures and instrumentation.
- Maintainsstandards by participating in in-services, committees, etc.
- Functions as preceptor to new associates and students.

| Specialized Knowledge and Skills | Demonstrate computer skills including word processing, databases and e-mail. Excellent verbal and communication skills. |
