Essential Duties
Strategic Planning1. Contribute to the development and execution of the organization’s strategic plans. Align information technology initiatives with broader business goals.2. Participate in executive-level decision-making processes to advocate for technology-driven solutions.3. Work closely with Yale University, Yale Medicine, and Yale New Haven Health System leadership in aligning strategic goals. Clinical Leadership and Patient Care4. Provide clinical leadership by integrating medical knowledge with information technology to optimize healthcare processes and decision-making.5. Actively engage with Yale Health leaders to identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and reduce technology-driven burnout.6. Collaborate with all staff to understand workflows and identify opportunities for technology-driven improvements.7. Provide direct patient care 20% effort.Technology Governance8. Manage the organization’s information technology (IT) strategy, ensuring alignment with the healthcare mission and strategic objectives.9. Provide supervision for the Director of Information Technology (IT) and oversight of staffing.10. Collaborate with the Director of IT to oversee IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and data management to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of patient information.11. Collaborate with Yale’s Health Sciences Information Services (HSIS) to optimize sharing of skills, experience and strategies for data management and architecture in service of Yale Health clinical and health plan goals, and Yale University overall.12. Collaborate with the Chief Health Information Officer of Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Health System, identify and prioritize opportunities to optimize and augment the electronic health record system to support patient care and clinician efficiency.13. Identify appropriate opportunities to align with Yale University, Yale Medicine and Yale New Haven Health System informatics, AI and technology initiatives, representing Yale Health on key committees and councils.Informatics Oversight14. Engage with other Yale Medicine and Yale New Haven Health System informatics leaders to represent Yale Health interests in key strategy and governance forums.15. Lead the optimization and effective use of Epic and any related clinical informatics systems to support safe and effective care and quality and performance improvement initiatives.16. Supervise 2 fulltime RN Epic analysts.Data Analytics and Reporting17. Utilize data analytics tools to derive insights from clinical data, enabling evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement.18. Provide analytics expertise and guidance as needed for population health initiatives and clinical operational improvements.19. With the Director of IT, provide strategic direction to business intelligence analysts to ensure critical operational and financial data are presented in a clear, understandable and actionable manner.20. Develop and implement reporting mechanisms for key performance indicators related to clinical and operational excellence.21. Work with the Chief Data and Analytics Officer of Yale New Haven Health System to identify opportunities for collaboration. Highlight and prioritize analytics needs of Yale Health requiring support of the CDAO and/or Joint Data Analytics Team.Regulatory Compliance22. Stay abreast of healthcare regulations and standards related to health information management, ensuring compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and other relevant guidelines.23. Work closely with legal and compliance teams to mitigate risks associated with medical information and technology usage.Education and Training24. Ensure that education and training programs are available for healthcare professionals on the effective and efficient use of information systems and technologies.25. Foster a culture of continuous learning and adaptability.
Required Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited medical or osteopathic medical school and a minimum of four years relevant clinical informatics leadership and experience post medical/osteopathic school and residency training.

The Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) develops and operationalizes key strategies related to the digital landscape at Yale Health, bridging the worlds of healthcare, informatics, and information technology. Responsible for clinical and essential information technology, including but not limited to EMR functionality, decision and workflow support, and analytics in service of the efficiency, effectiveness, and safety goals of Yale Health.
The CMIO provides strategic and operational oversight in the following areas: Strategic Planning, Clinical Leadership and Patient Care, Technology Governance, Informatics Oversight, Data Analysis and Reporting, Regulatory Compliance, and Education and Training. Additional information regarding these responsibilities are outlined below.
Required Licenses or Certifications
Current State of Connecticut medical license or license eligible and Narcotics Registration, or eligible. Current Federal DEA registration, Board Certification in a medical specialty; and BLS CPR required or eligible for recertification. Qualifies for hospital and faculty appointments.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Formal education and training in informatics, such as completion of a fellowship and/or board certification in clinical informatics strongly preferred.
