This position will prepare for a Civil Engineer position by participating in a 12-month training program designed to develop basic engineering skills through a “hands-on training” approach in an on-the-job environment.
This is training work used to develop practical proficiency in the use of engineering knowledge, skills and abilities in a bridge engineering, transportation engineering and/or soils engineering environment. Participates in an on-the-job training program designed to develop practical proficiency in the use of engineering training received in school. As part of the training, but not limited to, are some of the following duties: assists in performing surveys for highways and bridges in a transportation engineering environment; assists in performing bridge design duties, bridge safety inspections, preparation of bridge plans and preparation of highway plans, geotechnical reports, etc.; assists in the preparation of highway and bridge construction projects; assists in the District and/or county maintenance organizations with assigned maintenance and traffic engineering duties; assists in performing other related duties as required for the training phase.
