We have an exciting opportunity for a Collections Inventory Officer to join our Collections Management and Information team on a full-time, fixed-term contract for 8 months. You’ll be delivering key activities that contribute to the Trust’s stewardship of its collections, gaining valuable experience along the way.
You’ll gain hands-on experience within the central Collections Review Team and further develop your knowledge in collections management. You’ll be supporting our Technical Lead for Disposals, helping to bring several important projects to completion while testing and refining new procedures.
You’ll report to either the National Collection Registrar – Technical Lead (Disposals) or the Assistant Registrars within the Collections Management and Information team. We’re the ‘people services’ for our collections, managing everything from legal ownership and provenance research to acquisitions, disposals, loans, and collection reviews. We also handle lender negotiations, insurance, transport, and maintain key documentation for accountability.
Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there’ll be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there’s flexibility on where you’re based at other times. You’ll be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This’ll be discussed in more detail at interview.
You’ll join a small but busy Collections Review team, supporting our disposals work. With a focus on organisation and accuracy, you’ll handle a range of essential administrative tasks including updating inventory and exit records, managing SharePoint files, maintaining delivery plans, taking meeting minutes, and responding to queries. You’ll be helping to ensure our disposals are delivered smoothly and in line with best practice.
Bringing administrative and organisational skills, you’ll be confident managing multiple tasks and working flexibly in a changing environment. You’ll be detail-focused, calm under pressure, and able to meet deadlines while contributing to the careful and responsible management of our collections.
You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don’t need to have all the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what’s possible in this role.
The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.
