UNICEF Mexico Country Office operates in a dynamic environment and its Country Programme Document (CPD) 2026–2031 is designed to respond to a rapidly evolving national context, marked by significant social, economic, and political changes, including a new government administration and shifting policy priorities. The new CPD aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2026-31 and Mexico’s National Development Plan, focusing on four strategic areas: governance and rule of law, social inclusion and substantive equality, inclusive and resilient economy, and environment and climate change. Cross-cutting priorities include gender equality, human mobility, indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples, and youth.
UNICEF works in Mexico to support the country´s efforts to implement the Convention on the Rights of the Child through integrated interventions in health, nutrition, education, child protection, and social policy, with emphasis on evidence-based programming, multisectoral collaboration, and innovation. How can you make a difference?
This role as Communication Officer (Advocacy), (NO-1) supports UNICEF Mexico’s efforts to better advocate for children’s right, including strengthening the office capacity for advocacy and implementing public advocacy strategies, under the under the direct supervision of the Communication Officer (Public Advocacy) (NO-2) in UNICEF Mexico´s Communication Area (led by the Chief of Communication).
Within the delegated authority and the given organizational set-up, the incumbent will be accountable for the following major duties and end results.
- Support to advocacy processes at UNICEF Mexico.
- Development and support for advocacy capacity-strengthening processes.
- Implementation of public advocacy strategies.
- Development of communication campaigns with the Government of Mexico and other counterparts

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Minimum requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, Administration, International Relations, or related field.
- Work Experience:
- One-year practical professional work experience in advocacy, communication, and/or campaigning.
- Proven track record of successful implementing communication campaigns in a marketing, advocacy or brand context. Please upload your work portfolio, ensuring it includes at least three marketing, advocacy, or branding initiatives that you have coordinated, and clearly describe for each the campaign’s objective, the results achieved, and the key quantitative indicators.
- Language Requirements:
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Proficient level of English.
Desirables:
- Experience designing and/or facilitating capacity-strengthening in communications or advocacy.
- Planning and coordination of communication campaigns and event planning experience.
- Production of communication materials (including video, digital, and mass media related products).
- Experience working with the Government.
- Prior work experience with UN agencies, international NGOs, or multilateral organizations.
- Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
- Fluency in English.
