The Communication and Advocacy Section is seeking continued support to meet the writing and editing needs of the UNICEF China office. With an increased focus on communicating the work of UNICEF China to international audiences, there is also a need to produce high-quality public-facing material in English. There is a particular need to edit publications and reports from programme sections, which can be long and technical, to turn these into effective products for visibility and advocacy. There is also an occasional need to support other writing and editing tasks, such as speeches, press releases and briefing notes. An experienced English language writer/editor is critical to meet this need.

How can you make a difference?

Working under the direct supervision of the Chief of Communication and Advocacy and in close collaboration with programme sections, write and edit high-quality products and materials, such as publications, reports, fact sheets and brochures. Occasionally support writing and editing for communication products, such as campaign materials, press releases, human interest stories, social media packs and other communication and advocacy materials. Occasionally support front office with editing of speeches and briefing notes.

The specific writing and editing tasks will be determined by the Chief of Communication, in response to the evolving needs of the office and conveyed to the consultant on a rolling basis, with as much advance notice as possible. Payment will be made monthly according to an agreed day rate and based on the actual days worked. It is estimated that this will take up to a maximum of 120 days over an 11-month period from Feb-Dec 2025.

Applicants should provide a CV, relevant sample of work and daily rate. Previous experience of writing or editing for UNICEF or another UN agency in China or similar country context would be an advantage.
