Viet Nam’s current social-economic model contributes to high carbon emissions and environmental degradation, while increasing disaster risks and undermining opportunities for sustainable development: The country is at a critical juncture where policy choices on infrastructure, energy, urbanization, production and consumption will shape the success of its transition towards green, low-emission and climate-resilient development. Environmental degradation and pollution continue to impact livelihood opportunities and people’s health.
- On the ground in about 170 countries and territories, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works to eradicate poverty while protecting the planet. We help countries develop strong policies, skills, partnerships and institutions so they can sustain their progress.
- UNDP – Viet Nam partnership officially started in 1978. Since then, UNDP has been working closely with the Government and other partners to expand the choices for people and ensure that everyone has equal access to opportunities to realize their full potential.
- Viet Nam is particularly vulnerable to climate change and already impacted by more irregular and intense climate variability and change and is among the top ten countries in the world most affected by natural disasters and extreme weather events. The increasing exposure of people and economic assets has been and will continue to be the major cause of long-term increases in economic losses from weather- and climate- related disasters.

- The project will focus its technical, policy and coordination support efforts at both the national level, working with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the Ministry of Health (MOH), and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), and the provincial level, specifically in selected Mekong Delta locations including An Giang province, Can Tho city and Soc Trang province. The project beneficiaries include central, provincial, district and commune government personnel in the agriculture and rural development, health, and natural resources and environment sectors, and with private sector enterprises, social organizations, and local communities within these provinces.
- The KOFIH Telehealth project has the goal to improve access to healthcare services for the disadvantaged groups in Viet Nam with support from the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare. The project will support the Viet Nam Ministry of Health (MOH) in development of the technical guidelines, documents and legal framework related to telehealth/telemedicine. The capacities of both IT infrastructure will be improved via hardware and software upgrade and healthcare workers will be built via training courses at both provincial and grassroots levels. The telehealth/telemedicine services will be promoted to both healthcare workers and to people in the communities to use the “Doctor for Everyone” system developed by UNDP in collaboration with MOH.
- The Shifting Investment Flows Towards Green Transformation (SHIFT)’ project in Viet Nam aims at enhancing know-how and capacities of relevant public and private stakeholders in the areas of green finance and energy transition. The consortium consists of Agora Energiewende/the Smart Energy for Europe Platform (SEFEP), the Banking Academy of Viet Nam (BAV), International Finance Cooperation (IFC), SNV Netherlands Development Organisation Viet Nam, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) as the consortium lead.
