World University Service of Canada (WUSC) is a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to providing education, employment and empowerment opportunities to women and youth around the world.
Description about the Project:
In Jordan, Burden of Childcare Reduced and Addressed for Women in Jordan (BUCRA – meaning Tomorrow in Arabic) is a 5-year initiative (2024-2029) designed to enhance the economic empowerment of women in Jordan. BUCRA takes a systems’ approach that engages and supports local stakeholders from government, training bodies, the private sector and communities to drive gender-transformative change that addresses the most pressing childcare issues preventing women from participating in the workforce in Jordan. BUCRA targets over 8,600 women in 7 regions. The approach of equipping key stakeholders to address systemic barriers will enable the impacts to be experienced by women throughout Jordan over the long term.
Assignment Context:
There are two Communications Officer Volunteering opportunities available in Amman – Jordan; one will be based at the WUSC Jordan office and the other one will be based at the VTC (Vocational Training Corporation). They will support the BUCRA Project’s communications strategy by producing high-quality content, assisting with event management, and managing social media presence. The volunteers will work closely with the BUCRA communications team and partners to raise awareness of the project’s impact and ensure consistent messaging across all platforms.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The Communications Volunteer will:
- Assist in producing content for newsletters, press releases, and media kits
- Manage BUCRA’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) and ensure regular updates
- Monitor online engagement and provide analysis and reports on social media performance
- Assist in organizing and promoting events, webinars, and press conferences for the BUCRA project
- Support the development of communications materials that reflect the contributions of key stakeholders, including beneficiaries, government entities, and NGOs
- Provide administrative support for communications activities as needed
- Undertake any other tasks assigned by the line supervisor
- Participate in pre-assignment training
- Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives with Canadian audiences before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, funds, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have to report on each of their public engagement activities through our Volunteer Information Portal. Virtual chats and individual check-ins can be booked with the Senior Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment and up to 2 years after to seek guidance and support with their public engagement activities
- Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.
Experience and Qualifications
- A degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or any related field
- Excellent writing and editing skills in both Arabic and English
- Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation tools
- Basic graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or similar software) are an asset
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Passion for gender equality, women’s empowerment, and social development
- Experience in managing social media paid ads (Facebook Ads, Instagram Ads, etc.)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering
- Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
- Experience with group facilitation and trainings, including content development considered an asset
- Experience living and working internationally considered an asset
- Written and oral fluency in English
