VSL is seeking motivated, driven, and innovative Construction Interns to join our team for a 10-week Summer Internship Program supporting a major highway construction project in Virginia or Maryland.

As a Construction Intern, you’ll gain valuable exposure to both field and office operations while working alongside experienced construction professionals. You’ll contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects, develop technical and leadership skills, and gain a firsthand understanding of the processes that drive successful project delivery.

What You’ll Do

As a Construction Intern, you will support project teams by helping ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and specifications. Responsibilities include:

• Assisting with daily field and office activities to support project operations.
• Supporting project scheduling and planning efforts.
• Assisting with quantity take-offs and project documentation.
• Preparing and managing submittals and reports.
• Assisting with surveying and layout activities.
• Tracking job quantities, production rates, and project progress.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications, and other project documents.
• Identifying and communicating discrepancies between design plans and field conditions.
• Participating in safety meetings and supporting project safety initiatives.
• Collaborating with project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Supporting additional project responsibilities as assigned.

Summer Internship Program

Our10-week Summer Internship Program is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience and professional development opportunities. Interns will:

• Gain firsthand exposure to heavy civil construction and specialized infrastructure projects.
• Work directly with project managers, superintendents, engineers, and construction professionals.
• Participate in structured learning and networking events.
• Develop technical, communication, and leadership skills.
• Build relationships with mentors and industry leaders.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
• Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or graduate student with an interest in construction and infrastructure.
