Consultancy – Copy Editor
We are searching for an experienced Consultancy – Copy Editor at our Egypt facility.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
USAID’s Trade Reform and Development in Egypt (TRADE) project builds on decades of U.S. investments in Egyptian businesses and economic policy with the aim of substantially increasing Egyptian exports from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The TRADE project focuses on six selected sectors: engineering products, food processing, home textiles, ready-made garments, chemicals, and building materials. Through the project, USAID works with the Government of Egypt to improve the trade and investment policy environment and reduce barriers to trade. USAID also partners with business associations and export councils to strengthen the trade services ecosystem for small- and medium-sized exporters, as well as with private companies to help them access new international markets to increase export sales. TRADE tackles many trade and investment-related issues to sustainably increase Egyptian exports and drive economic growth.
Period of Performance:
This consultancy will take place from September 1st, 2024 to August 31st, 2025
Level of Effort: 75 working Days
Tasks
Under TRADE communication unit, the consultant will support the USAID TRADE project with the following main responsibilities.
- Proofread and copyedit the project’s publications, reports and any other documents as needed to ensure linguistic fluidity, terminology use, and style homogeneity.
- Provide simultaneous interpretation during events, workshops, meetings, and field visits, as required, whether they occur inside Cairo or outside the city.
- Offer consecutive interpretation for one-on-one discussions, interviews, and smaller group interactions.
- Ensure accurate and culturally appropriate communication between Arabic and English speakers.
- Prepare and familiarize oneself with the subject matter of the event or meeting to facilitate smooth interpretation.
- Translate documents, reports, presentations, and other materials from Arabic to English and vice versa as requested.
- Edit translated materials for grammar, clarity, and consistency, maintaining the original meaning and tone.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure translations meet project requirements and deadlines.
- Conduct research and stay updated on terminology and developments in relevant subject areas.
- Proofread text and edit text at various stages of the writing process and in response to feedback from the project leads.
- Understand and consistently reflect the brand voice of USAID TRADE in writing style.
- Keep abreast of trends in content and style reflected on various popular social media channels.
- Draft/copyedit communications products such as press releases, fact sheets, briefers, success stories, outreach-related memos, etc., that promote TRADE activities.
Required Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of copy-editing experience preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Arabic languages.
- Thorough knowledge of media production and communication.
- Ability to remain detailed-oriented and focused when processing large amounts of text.
- Strong computer processing skills, especially Microsoft Office.
- Mastery of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors and ability to make constructive suggestions.
- Prior experience working on USAID projects, is highly desirable.
