Project Overview and Role:

The goal of the USAID Trade Reform and Development in Egypt (TRADE) Project is to boost Egypt’s international trade by increasing exports from Egyptian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and in particular New and Expanding Export-Ready Enterprises (NEEREs).1 

In order to achieve the Project’s goal, the project seeks to attain the following three Results: 

1)Enhanced Export Capacity of SMEs in selected sectors

2)Strengthened public and private Trade-Support Institutions – (TSIs) e.g., Trade Associations, Export Councils, etc.

3)Improved trade and investment policy, regulatory, and institutional environment

In implementing activities to accomplish the three results USAID TRADE aims to achieve the following targets, among others: 

Generate USD225M in NEERE export revenue in selected sectors, collectively.

Help increase export revenue of TSI member companies benefiting from improved TSI services collectively, by 30%.

Help reduce cost/time and administrative procedures to trade.

To achieve those targets USAID TRADE will provide assistance to SMEs and TSIs in the following sectors: 

Food processing

Engineering

Ready-made garments (RMG)

Home textiles

Chemicals/Packaging

Building materials

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

OBJECTIVES:

The objective of this consultancy is to engage a dedicated Marketing Strategy Consultant who will be instrumental in crafting a comprehensive marketing strategy for our NEEREs. The focus will be on developing high-level plans, strategic positioning, and conducting thorough market research to inform the creation of overarching marketing strategies aligned with our NEEREs’s goals and objectives. The consultant will contribute to fostering a long-term vision, including brand development, market positioning, and competitive differentiation.

Tasks:

The consultant will support the USAID TRADE project with the following main responsibilities:

  • Focus on Planning and Positioning:
  • Collaborate with USAID Tarde project and NEEREs to understand the business’s core objectives and values.
  • Develop plans that strategically position the organization within the market.
  • Conduct a thorough analysis of the current market positioning and identify areas for improvement.
  • Strategic Planning:
  • Formulate overall marketing strategies that align with the NEEREs’s short-term and long-term goals.
  • Outline actionable steps and initiatives to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Work closely with USAID trade project and NEEREs to ensure alignment between marketing strategies and broader organizational goals.

Market Research:

  • Conduct extensive market research to gain insights into the industry landscape, competitors, and target audience.
  • Utilize data-driven approaches to inform marketing strategies.
  • Identify emerging trends and opportunities in the market that can be leveraged for strategic advantage.

Long-Term Vision:

  • Develop a comprehensive long-term vision for marketing initiatives.
  • Propose strategies for sustained brand development, market positioning, and competitive differentiation.
  • Collaborate with leadership to integrate the long-term vision into the overall business strategy.

Scaling and Expansion (Marketing Growth Tasks):

  • Assess the potential for scaling and expanding current marketing operations.
  • Implement growth-focused strategies and tactics to increase market share, customer acquisition, and revenue.
  • Analyze data and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and optimize marketing efforts for sustainable growth.

Deliverables:

Comprehensive Marketing Strategy Document:

  • High-level plans and strategic positioning recommendations for 20 NEEREs
  • Overall marketing strategies document with actionable steps and initiatives.
  • Detailed market research report including insights into the industry, competitors, and target audience.

Long-Term Vision Proposal:

  • Document outlining the long-term vision for marketing initiatives.
  • Strategies for sustained brand development, market positioning, and competitive differentiation.

Growth-Oriented Marketing Implementation Plan:

  • Detailed plan for scaling and expanding marketing operations.
  • Executable strategies and tactics for increasing market share, customer acquisition, and revenue.
  • Data analysis and performance metrics report identifying areas for optimization.

Period of Performance

This consultancy will take place from Feb 1st, 2024, to December 31st, 2024.

Level of Effort: 80 working Days

Required Qualifications:

Educational Background:

  • Advanced degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of proven experience in marketing strategy development.
  • Demonstrated success in crafting comprehensive marketing strategies for organizations, with a focus on planning, positioning, and long-term vision.

Industry Knowledge:

  • In-depth understanding of market dynamics, industry trends, and competitive landscapes.
  • Previous experience conducting market research and utilizing data-driven insights for strategic decision-making.

Strategic Planning Expertise:

  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with a track record of creating and executing successful marketing strategies.
  • Ability to align marketing plans with broader organizational goals and objectives.

Long-Term Visionary:

  • Proven ability to develop and implement long-term visions for marketing initiatives, including brand development, market positioning, and competitive differentiation.

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to convey complex marketing strategies in a clear and concise manner.

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Leadership skills to guide and influence teams towards successful strategy implementation.

Analytical Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using data analysis and performance metrics to inform strategic decisions.

Adaptability:

  • Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and emerging trends.
  • Flexibility in adjusting strategies to meet evolving business needs.

Results-Driven:

  • Track record of achieving measurable results in terms of market share growth, customer acquisition, and revenue increase through implemented marketing strategies.

Global Perspective:

  • Experience or familiarity with international markets and a global perspective in developing marketing strategies.
