Background:

UNICEF Egypt requires consistent production of communication, advocacy, and visibility materials. These materials are crucial for documenting key children’s issues and UNICEF’s responses through quality multimedia content packages. Utilized as advocacy tools, these packages play a pivotal role in lobbying support from policymakers, media, donors, partners, and the general public. 

They are particularly effective in highlighting key priority areas including humanitarian responses. Each 

high-quality content package contains videos and photos and compelling stories. To maximize their reach, these content packages are disseminated through various channels including social media, publications, external media networks, partner networks, and donor reports. 

To fulfill this ongoing need, UNICEF Egypt is seeking the services of professional multimedia content producer professionals. These professionals should provide professional videography and photography services and be readily available, even at short notice, to undertake projects. This includes field visits to document UNICEF’s work and programmes effectively. 

Objective:

UNICEF Egypt seeks to establish Long Term Agreements (LTA’s) with multiple qualified professionals to provide multimedia content for different activities and events. The pictures and videos will be used by UNICEF and its partners across various platforms (including digital and print). The pictures and videos will also potentially be shared and used by UNICEF HQ, UNICEF regional and other country offices, governmental partners and other partners such as media, NGO and other UN agencies.

Methodology:

Duties will entail delivering the below mentioned tasks within the agreed timeframe as per each assignment.

Requirements for Multimedia Content Production services:

1. Programme activity coverage – professional photography and videography documentation of UNICEF Egypt’s supported programmes, activities and events.
2. Visual storytelling with captions and quotes – professional photographic and videographic storytelling focused on children and their families
3. Everyday Voices – portraits of children, young people, general subjects, beneficiaries or key actors and partners of UNICEF.

Summary:

Videography

• Pre-production: Discussion, conceptualization, planning/storyboarding, building narratives and scripts, writing production plans, shooting schedules, etc.
• Production: Film on site in agreed locations.
• Post-Production: Editing and final packaging, according to UNICEF guidelines and requirements. This includes developing the required deliverables as indicated below.
• Ensure videos and all contents submitted have embedded captions

Photography

• Document and illustrate the situation of children and other beneficiaries as decided by UNICEF Egypt.
• Take photos that provide visibility to UNICEF’s work and for UNICEF’s publications, reports and donor relations. This will require travel within Egypt to the field.
• Ensure photos are well captioned according to UNICEF guidelines

Story writing (optional)

• Write photo essays and human-interest stories featuring young people and UNICEF beneficiaries from the field; their stories, quotes, struggles and achievements.
• Using UNICEF data to advocate for children’s rights through these story and shedding light on UNICEF interventions.

The consultant should:

1. Read and abide by the UNICEF guidelines on ethical imagery and photography and videography norms and code of ethics. (see: 8 quick steps to ethical imagery).
2. Ensure consent forms are signed by children and/or guardians as per UNICEF guidelines (guidance will be provided on the process for selected consultants).
3. Provide well captioned photos that have details of when, where and who the photo is about.
4. Ensure all footage should be cutting edge and meet latest, competing technical standard.
5. Demonstrate a client-oriented approach, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
6. Ensure dignity of subjects, particularly in the context of children and vulnerable groups.
7. Ensure effective and efficient provision of services, full confidentiality in all aspects of assignment, management of information flow and follow-up on deadlines and commitments made.

1. Photo documentation of situation of children, UNICEF and partners’ programmes, initiatives, activities (such as events, PSAs’ [1] backstage, field visits…etc.)
2. Document situation of children, success stories and results of programmes and initiatives focusing on children and young people; Document key moments of the activity, in-action/natural shots of participants with special focus on children and other beneficiaries, UNICEF personnel, partners, high-level figures including Goodwill Ambassadors, etc. (according to briefing). These should be documented with strict adherence to UNICEF photo guidelines and ethical imagery.

On completion of assignment and receipt of an invoice.

Payment will only be made for work satisfactorily completed and accepted by UNICEF.

1. Portraits of individuals
2. For each photo assignment, high quality pictures will be provided in good quality .RAW or .JPEG format. The total number required can be determined as per assignment needs. The pictures provided will include some close up, medium and wide shots. Selected pictures as per the requesting officer should be provided via the agreed communication channel (e.g. WhatsApp or google drive link…etc.) within 1 hour from the end of any event, the rest being provided within 48 hours.
3. Photo and videos including B-rolls stock update (photo session might be needed), creative short videos for social media reels and stories.
4. Interviews with beneficiaries and partners and inserts for them in action as well as generic B-roll for establishing shots and shots with negative space for on-screen-text. Videos are either delivered raw or edited (with colouring, royalty-free music, subtitles and on-screen text) according to the brief. Shots should be horizontal but considering they will be usable both vertically and horizontally. They should be taken in creative ways to preserve the subject’s anonymity when required.
5. Human-interest stories and photo essays (optional)
6. Writing stories from the field in English or Arabic according to UNICEF guidelines.

The final tasks and deliverables will be determined as per the requirements of the individual assignments.

Conditions of work:

• Consultants should conduct all work independently, in accordance with professional standards. This includes working from their own office space and using their own hardware and software equipment.
• Assignments will be inside and outside Cairo. Travel costs should be indicated in the financial offer under “Accommodation and commute” and these are the only costs that will be covered (see: financial Annex).
• Same-day cancellation of assignments is compensated as half day inside Cairo and full day outside Cairo.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

• Professional photographer and videographer with at least 5-years of professional work experience and quality portfolio.
• Ability to deliver images and videos on time, according to the specified quality and technical requirements in photography and videography guidelines for UNICEF Egypt.
• Flexibility in accommodating to short-notice assignments inside and outside Cairo.
• Awareness and compliance of UN and UNICEF guidelines on ethical imagery, interviewing and photographing of children.
• Experienced in working with UN or comparable international organizations/media is an asset.
• Excellent English and Arabic communication skills.
• Ability to work on demand, multi-task and deliver ahead of tight deadline.

Any attempt to unduly influence UNICEF’s selection process will lead to automatic disqualification of the applicant.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
