Introduction
AATF wishes to engage a Security Trainer/facilitator in the training of all its staff. The training will last two days and take place at a remote location in Nairobi. The training will constitute personal safety and security, problem solving, comprehensive planning process, communication and psychological effects of fear.
Specific Outcomes:
- Participants are familiar with Problem Solving – Process Vs Activity.
- Participants are able to understand their role in matters of Safety and Security.
- Participants understand personal security and role as individuals.
- Draft Safety and Security guidelines.
Scope of Work
The trainer is expected to undertake the following:
- Develop ‘humanist’ training to assist in the facilitation of key aspects of personal security
- Provision of specialist security advice such as – problem solving, psychosocial, basic medical training, communications etc.
Target Groups
Beneficiaries of the training course shall be:
- All AATF staff and especially those who frequently visit project areas/fields.
Expected Output/Deliverables
- Bespoke training at the tactical and operational level.
Methodology
The successful candidate should have extensive knowledge of Humanist, effect based and PBL training methodologies.
Time Frame
AATF expects that the training will last for three (3) days starting in January 2025.
Support Available:
- AATF will coordinate the training and all other activities.
- Provide logistical support (transport, accommodation, food, etc. during the assignment).
Terms and Conditions
Logistics: Travel from Nairobi to the training location and back after the end of the contract, food and accommodation will be covered by AATF.
Professional fee
The Trainer/Facilitator will propose his/her own rate as part of the financial proposal. This will be reviewed by AATF and amended and/or approved as appropriate.
Tax and insurance
The Trainer/Facilitator shall be responsible for their income tax, work permits and/or insurance during the assignment.
Code of conduct
A contract will be signed by the Trainer/Facilitator before commencement of the action. The contract will detail terms and conditions of service.
The Trainer/Facilitator will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
Location
The training will take place in a remote area in Nairobi
Application Requirements
All proposals should include:
- Cover letter: A short (maximum three pages) letter addressing the training criteria and with particular emphasis on previous experience.
- Financial Proposal: The financial proposal should provide cost estimates for services rendered including daily consultancy fees excluding accommodation and living costs; transport cost; stationery, and supplies needed for training and costs related to participants at the training.
Expertise Required
The following attributes are requirements for the selection of the Trainer:
Proven experience of organizing and facilitating scenario-based field security training.

Proven experience of operating within the security risk environment (minimum of 5 years).

The ability to develop, write and train a comprehensive Threat Risk Assessment at the individual and organizational level.

Experience of managing critical incidents for incorporating in business continuity.

Demonstrable experience of working with INGOs and NGOs in high-risk areas, such as Nigeria, Somalia and other hostile environments.

A comprehensive understanding of the Humanitarian Principles and their application in security.

An understanding of the psychological effects of working in a hostile environment and how appropriate mitigation can be included in field training.
Evaluation and Award of the Consultancy
AATF shall evaluate the proposals and award the assignment based on technical and financial feasibility. AATF reserves the right to accept or reject any proposal received without giving reasons and is not bound to accept the lowest or the highest bidder.
