Consultant Psychiatrist at HMYOI Feltham 10 PAsThis post has been created following CNWL’s successful bid as the contractor Integrated Healthcare at HMYOI Feltham. CNWL is responsible for providing all healthcare services within the prison, including primary care, health and well-being (primary and secondary mental health), substance misuse services, medicines optimisation and allied health professions such as physiotherapy and dietetics. The service went live on 1 April 2020. The appointment of the full time, substantive consultant psychiatrist at HMYOI Feltham is one of the last aspects of the mobilisation plan to be completed. This team is subdivided into two, with one covering Feltham A for young people aged between 15 and 17 years and another covering Feltham B for young people aged between 18 and 21 years. The team members covering Feltham A and B work closely together and provide cross cover for each other.This team assesses and treats young people, on ordinary location, in the healthcare wing with mental with mental disorders, behavioural conditions and neuro-developmental conditions including ADHD, Autism and learning disability. The post is part of a multidisciplinary team providing care to this unique population of young people. The post-holder will also work closely with other aspects of the healthcare service within the prison, including secure stairs, the primary care team and the substance misuse team.We anticipate that the Health and Wellbeing Team will receive circa 10-15 referrals each week and hold a caseload of approximately 80 young people at any one time. There will be circa 30-40 patients subject to multi-professional/agency working under the auspices of the Care Programme Approach (incorporating Section 117 Aftercare) at any one time, though all young people will need multiagency working.There is a mental health inpatient unit in HMYOI Feltham at present although it is intended that this will close in the future and that intensive psychiatric care is provided on the wings if necessary.The post holder will provide specialist psychiatric advice and consultation to a range of healthcare and prison staff to promote effective delivery of mental health care.The post holder will be expected to provide direct consultant (CAMHS / forensic) psychiatrist input into the mental health care of young people undergoing assessment or treatment by the Mental health and Wellbeing Team in HMYOI Feltham.The Team will receive referrals from any member of the prison staff, healthcare staff or outside agencies such as CAMHS, Looked After Children Teams etc. Young people will be either seen in outpatients or on the Prison Wings / healthcare inpatients unit.
