Are you looking for your next role as a dynamic clinical leader in Acute Hospital Mental Health Liaison?Are you a Consultant Psychiatrist, or a Higher Specialist Trainee within 6 months of their CCT, who is dedicated and passionate about improving mental health services and addressing the current lack of parity of esteem between mental and physical health?The Hospital Liaison Service is based at Weston General Hospital, North Somerset. It provides a service within the Emergency Department as well as the hospital wards, primarily to support general hospital staff in providing appropriate care to those with mental distress.This is a small District General Hospital with approximately 220 beds and an Emergency Department open from 8am to 10pm. The hospital is part of the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.North Somerset is located at the gateway to the South West and offers the best of seaside and country living combined with the benefits of being close to the vibrant cities of Bristol, Bath and Exeter. It has easy travel routes to Devon, Cornwall, South Wales, London and beyond via the M4 and M5, a central train station in Weston-Super-Mare, with frequent services to Bristol, as well as direct services to London with interconnecting local stations across the area. It is situated close to Bristol Airport.Main duties of the jobAs the consultant in the Mental Health Liaison Service, you will provide medical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team serving Weston General Hospital.You will provide diagnostic and treatment advice as well as supporting the wider team in complex and high risk case management. You will have a key clinical leadership role, with service improvement and development, alongside the team manager. Qualifications
Essential
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable
- Relevant Higher Degree e.g MD,PHD,Msc or other additional clinical qualifications
- MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Eligibility
Essential
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of gaining CCT
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry and/or Old Age psychiatry
- Endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry
Experience
Essential
- Experience of assessing and treating patients in a general hospital setting.
- Knowledge and evidence of participation in CPD
- Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement

Essential
- To possess leadership skills and be able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work
- Ability to appraise own performance as a Consultant.
- Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, in order to effectively work with patients, carers and staff.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

- Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills
Clinical Skills

- Ability to assess and treat psychiatric problems in Adults of working age and to deal with crisis situations.
Knowledge

- Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a Consultant.
- Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation.
Desirable
- Knowledge of alternatives to inpatient admission care approaches
Teaching
Essential
- Commitment to and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching.
Desirable
- Experience as an Educational Supervisor for trainees
Research and Audit
Essential
- Experience or involvement in a research project and publication.
- Experience of carrying out an audit project.
Management
Essential
- Evidence of management/leadership skills training.
Desirable
- Previous management experience including that of other junior medical staff
