Consulting Director – Biodiversity, Agriculture, Nature & Water (m/w/d)

As the Consulting Director for Biodiversity, Agriculture, and Water, you will lead ERM’s efforts to support clients in tackling complex sustainability challenges in these critical areas. You will drive strategic growth, provide technical leadership, and foster partnerships to deliver innovative and impactful solutions. This role offers the opportunity to shape transformative projects that enhance ecosystem resilience, promote sustainable agriculture, and improve water stewardship.

About the role:

Strategic Leadership:

• Develop and execute ERM’s services for biodiversity, agriculture, and water as well as carbon and nature markets consulting with clients across the DACH region.
• Lead business development initiatives to expand ERM’s client base and project portfolio in these domains.

Client Engagement and Delivery:

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, understanding their needs and offering tailored solutions.
• Oversee the delivery of high-quality consulting projects, ensuring client satisfaction and compliance with ERM’s standards.
• Advise clients on topics including any or both of the following priority areas:
• i) corporate biodiversity strategy: including CSRD compliance, TNFD and SBTN, biodiversity action plans, sustainable land-use strategies, water risk assessments, and ESG reporting;
• ii) carbon and nature markets: due diligence of investment opportunities; carbon and nature project development.

Team Leadership:

• Mentor and manage a team of consultants, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.
• Support recruitment and talent development to build ERM’s capacity in biodiversity, agriculture, and water expertise.

Technical Expertise:

• Provide thought leadership in biodiversity conservation, sustainable agriculture practices, integrated water resource management, carbon markets.
• Stay informed about emerging trends, policies, and technologies in these fields and incorporate them into ERM’s offerings.

Collaboration and Networking:

• Represent ERM at industry events, conferences, and stakeholder forums to promote ERM’s capabilities and influence sustainability dialogues.
• Collaborate with ERM’s global teams to leverage expertise and drive cross-regional initiatives.

About you:

• Master’s or PhD in environmental science, ecology, agriculture, water resources, or a related field.
• Minimum 10-15 years of consulting or industry experience in biodiversity, agriculture, and/or water resource management.
• Proven track record of leading multi-disciplinary projects and managing client relationships.
• Deep understanding of biodiversity conservation frameworks, sustainable agriculture practices, and water stewardship strategies.
• Familiarity with international standards and tools, such as the EU Biodiversity Strategy, Science-Based Targets for Nature, or water risk assessment methodologies.
• Demonstrated ability to inspire and manage high-performing teams.
• Fluency in English and German is essential.
