Positional Summary

The CAPS Coordinator of Triage, Referral, Access and Crisis (TRAC) will provide leadership to the daily operations of the CAPS triage, intake and referral process for all Duke students. This position will ensure timely and appropriate mental health care, both within CAPS and through external resources. The coordinator will provide clinical services, oversee case management, manage referral database, and will collaborate with both internal and external partners to ensure a student-centered and an equitable system of mental health access and care for all Duke students. As a senior licensed clinician, the TRAC coordinator will also provide mental health services in various modalities as well as outreach services. The Coordinator of CAPS will work under the guidance of the Director and the Associate Director/Clinical Director of CAPS with projects related to the management of the CAPS clinical system; and will adhere to and promote all CAPS policies and procedures, to include adherence to CAPS confidentiality policies.

Key Position Duties

TRAC Coordination and Management: 60% of Effort

Clinical and Crisis Management

• Oversee the strategic vision and administrative function of the TRAC system.
• Hold direct responsibility and leadership provision for the day-to-day management of the TRAC team and the delivery of high-quality student first contact experience at CAPS.
• Provide initial triage, crisis care, and clinical consultation for all Duke students presenting acute distress. Address high risk situations such as risk to self and others.
• Provide brief bridge-care to students waiting to initiate therapy services, at CAPS or off-campus.
• Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours emergency services.
• Manage Protocall and review all the incoming student calls to ensure timely services and connections.

• Provide generalist clinical functions to include intakes, brief therapy, group therapy, and outreach.
• Assist CAPS clients and their families with obtaining appropriate mental health treatment by facilitating information on both in-network and out-of-network referral sources.

Supervision and Training

• Supervise a team of full-time licensed TRAC clinicians.
• Provide biweekly supervision and as-needed training to TRAC team.
• Provide TRAC related training to CAPS training program, as requested.

Administrative and Programmatic Duties: 35% of Effort

Referral and Case Management

• Responsible for the development and ongoing updates to CAPS referral database. Maintain and enhance student access to a wide range of mental health resources that are in-network under the Duke Student Medical Insurance Plan.
• Identify and maintain positive working relationships with mental health treatment resources outside of CAPS, including outpatient psychotherapy, outpatient psychiatry services, intensive outpatient, inpatient, residential care, and partial day hospitalization programs.
• Serve as the liaison to effectively connect students with off-campus providers and services, addressing barriers to accessing care.
• Manage and monitor provider panels, in partnership with the clinical director, to ensure service quality for Duke students.
• Track and manage student caseload to ensure smooth transition to community care.
• Manage all aspects of Miresource and Timely Care, in addition to other external databases to ensure timely access to services.

Leadership & Other Activities

• Serve on the Duke CAPS leadership team.
• Participate in Duke Time Away review committee.
• Co-chair, along with the CAPS leadership, the D-SHIP credentialing committee and paneling process.

• Collaborate with the CAPS leadership to evaluate and enhance TRAC system by producing assessment and outcome data, including internal and external timely contact, crisis care, referral efficacy, student satisfaction, and other pertinent TRAC data points.

• Under the guidance of the CAPS Director and Associate Director/Clinical Director will help manage the funding for support resources for students in need of financial assistance to allow rapid entry into intensive treatment programs.

• Coordinate and consult with Duke campus partners (Duke Reach, DUPD, faculty/staff, etc.) about students of concern and ensuring this information is filed in accordance with CAPS policy and HIPAA regulation.
• Participate in clinical teams, staff meetings and perform other center activities as assigned.
• Provide training to CAPS professional staff, including training interns, and psychology/psychiatry residents, related to the TRAC process and protocols, as well as off-campus referral process.
• Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation in compliance with CAPS policies and procedures.

Other- 5% of Effort

• Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet departmental, Division and University goals and objectives, as assigned by their Supervisor, Director, or respective designees.

Anticipated Pay Range:

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position of USD $63,240.00 to USD $100,980.00. Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum Education
  • Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work required.
  • Current licensure as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) by the NC Social Work and Certification and Licensure Board.
    • Full licensure is required as LCSW in the state of North Carolina. An Associate license (LCSWA) will not qualify or be considered for this position.
    • Out-of-state applicants require a NC full (LCSW) license by the start of employment.
• Minimum Experience
  • Two years of post-masters experience in a clinical setting and five years of experience in a student mental health agency or relevant healthcare or social service setting.

Strongly Preferred Experiences:

• Education: Master’s degree in Social work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related mental health field.

• Experiences:
  • 3-5years of clinical and crisis experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a university or similar clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis assessment, intervention, consultation and case management.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of brief clinical interventions, including risk assessment, safety planning, and mobilization of support systems to assist clients in accessing resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with emerging and young adult population, preferably in a university counseling setting.
  • Strong demonstrated leadership skills and experience. Strong preference towards experiences of managing a clinical team.
