THE POSITION

Join the Department of Corrections as a Corrections Community Center Monitor and make a direct impact on the safety and success of reentrants in Pittsburgh. This role gives you the chance to work in a fast paced environment where teamwork and strong communication make a real difference. You will help keep the Pittsburgh Community Corrections Center secure while supporting individuals on their path back into the community. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position plays a key role providing care, custody, and control of reentrants. It combines security responsibilities with one-on-one and group interactions to help individuals return to the community successfully. As a Corrections Community Center Monitor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Safety Oversight: Monitor reentrant behavior, conduct searches, and maintain documentation to support a secure environment
  • Reentrant Guidance: Provide orientation, review policies, and help reentrants understand expectations and available services
  • Compliance Checks: Complete destination checks, administer breathalyzer and urinalysis tests, and document results and observations
  • Facility Monitoring: Check all areas for safety, cleanliness, and security while assisting with keeping the center inspection-ready
  • Public Interaction: Offer information to visitors, respond to concerns, and serve as a contact point for law enforcement
  • Team Support: Assist new monitors, attend hearings, and participate in required trainings

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Community Corrections Centers are staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • Work hours to will include different shifts or irregular hours.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,081.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED experience, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of Department of Corrections Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be willing and able to work in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
  • This position requires shift work. You must be willing and able to work different shifts or irregular scheduled hours.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Two (2) years of experience performing public safety or security work. (Examples of qualifying experience include but are not limited to public safety or security work involving protection of persons and/or property and maintaining required security through enforcement of rules, regulations, and laws; public safety or security work in a correctional setting, juvenile, or adult development/detention center, law enforcement entity, or military security experience)
  • One (1) year of work experience providing direction/guidance to individuals. (Examples of qualifying work experience include but are not limited to performing as a lead worker or supervisor assigning and evaluating work tasks, providing informal counseling, or giving orders in the Military)
