THE POSITION

Take on a motivating career opportunity as the Corrections Food Service Instructor with the Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Camp Hill. In this role, you help inmates gain real-world food service experience that supports their future success. Your leadership keeps meal production safe, efficient, and well organized every day. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides hands-on instruction and leadership to inmate workers in food operation areas of SCI Camp Hill. It supports safe food production, orderly work routines, and the development of vocational skills. As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Food Instruction: Teach inmates methods for food preparation, cooking, baking, and equipment use
  • Safety Oversight: Inspect tools, equipment, and food items to confirm that all safety and sanitation rules are followed
  • Work Direction: Assign tasks, review performance, and maintain accurate records for inmate workers
  • Supply Management: Receive, store, and rotate food items while reducing waste and supporting menu needs
  • Kitchen Supervision: Monitor inmate behavior and maintain care, custody, and control during work activities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • You will work shifts with rotating days off. Shifts are awarded based on bidding and seniority. Work hours will be determined from the following shifts:
    • 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM
    • Swing Shift: 4:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
