Counselor

Location: Burkeville, VA, the Nottoway Transitional Men’s Work Release program’s mission is to teach low-level inmates who are 9-12 months from release of incarceration effective coping skills to lead a pro-social, drug-free life.

Schedule: Sunday -Thursday, 11am-7:30pm with a 30-minute unpaid meal break. & Tuesday-Saturday 11am-7:30pm.

Pay rate: $28.85/hr. ($60,000 annually). Candidates with a CSAC, CADC, or equivalent certification/license are eligible for $31.25/hr. ($65,000 annually)

The Counselor is responsible for:

• Conducting comprehensive assessments and individual treatment plans within established timeframes.
• Facilitating psycho-educational and process groups as defined by the curriculum.
• Providing individual counseling according to timeframes established per program and documenting each session according to policies and procedures.
• Maintaining clinical records in accordance with contractual and Spectrum standards.
• Serving as a role model/mentor for program participants while maintaining professional boundaries and addressing participant issues, concerns, and inappropriate behaviors promptly and in accordance with Spectrum’s clinical design.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in the Human Services field is required.
• State certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) in the state of Virginia or similar certification/license recognized by the Virginia Board of Professional Counselors is required within two (2) years of signing job description.
• experience working within a correctional or secure environment is a plus.
