Primary Function:

The Custodian performs custodial and maintenance duties for Phipps Neighborhoods programs; troubleshoots and performs minor repairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, offices, and classrooms using established practices and procedures.
  • Clean, dust, and wipe office and classroom furniture; put away tables, cots, chairs and mats.
  • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish; sweep and mop floors, shampoo and vacuum carpeted areas.
  • Empty /clean wastebaskets and trash containers; remove trash and recyclables in accordance with established procedures.
  • Spray insecticides and fumigants to prevent insect and rodent infestation.
  • Monitor the smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers for repair or renewal.
  • Clean interior windows and air vents; wash, dust and wipe windows, including window guards, blinds, all ledges, air vents and other surfaces.
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours, and check for unlocked doors and windows; report unauthorized occupants.
  • Clean, maintain, and store cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, shampooers, buffing machines, and pressure washers (includes changing vacuum cleaner bags and wiping down machines).
  • Disinfecting and steaming high touch areas.
  • Maintain light fixtures in restrooms, offices, and classrooms.
  • experience with light repairs such as: changing tiles or light bulbs
  • Maintain inventory and submit written requests for supplies.
  • Provide a touch-up paint job whenever necessary.
  • Report damage, unsafe conditions, vandalism and vermin to the Program Director.
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with program staff.
  • Perform other tasks as deemed necessary by the Program Director.
