Data Scientist 1 – AI Tooling Team (Hybrid – Seattle)

Job Description

As a Data Scientist 1 in our AI Tooling team, you will be instrumental in creating tools and patterns that advance the Nordstrom Technology Organization with Generative AI solutions for our developer community. You will help evolve our organization by leveraging cutting-edge tooling, aiming to make all engineers at Nordstrom more productive. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on both the business and technical strategy, with the potential to fundamentally change Nordstrom’s core business.

A Day in the Life:

• Technical Development: Develop and maintain AI-driven tools that enhance the productivity of our engineering teams.
• Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, managers, and engineers to gather requirements and deliver robust, scalable solutions.
• Hands-On Data Science: Engage directly in coding and development to ensure the successful implementation of AI tools.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure the reliability, performance, and security of the AI tools, while adhering to best practices and secure coding standards.
• Domain Expertise: Act as a subject matter expert on Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, and agentic frameworks.
• Communication: Effectively convey complex Generative AI concepts to diverse audiences through presentations, visualizations, and documentation.
• Innovation: Stay current with emerging AI technologies and industry trends to continually improve the tooling ecosystem.

You Own This If You Have:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science-related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• 1+ years professional experience.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Strong understanding of AI concepts and technologies, including tools like Microsoft AutoGen or similar.
• Experience with frameworks that deploy apps to AWS.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Pay Range Details

The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

Washington: $103,000 – $188,500 Annually

This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more.
