GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

As the Deputy Chief Development Officer of International Initiatives, you will develop, organize and maintain the museums international initiatives program to best serve the institutions global partnerships with foreign scholarly institutions, governments, cultural organizations and colleagues. Working in partnership with both the Exhibitions and Development teams, you will identify, manage and foster international relationships by coordinating visits with dignitaries, delegations, and museum leaders. You will organize and advise on international protocols for events and outreach efforts.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Under the direction of the Deputy Director for Exhibitions and International Initiatives, build and maintain a framework for coordinated oversight of The Met’s international initiatives.
  • Work with key stakeholders to coordinate international outreach efforts and oversee the management of the calendar of international visits/projects to maximize impact.
  • Coordinate the International Council and its trips with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and the two trustees who chair the Council, building membership and maximizing member involvement both with Council-generated programming and in members’ home countries.
  • Manage meeting/visit requests from international dignitaries (UN Missions, Consulates, Embassies, and IVLP) and further enhance partnerships with State Department and US Embassies worldwide; coordinate prioritized visa outreach and procurement, as needed.
  • Serve as key coordinator for visiting delegations, involving the Director, Deputy Directors, and other staff as appropriate.
  • Support the Events team in the Development Office with international protocol guidelines and logistics for high-level visits, ceremonies, opening receptions (including exhibitions and capital projects), and invitee outreach.
  • Working with the Administrator, Exhibitions and International Initiatives, ensure comprehensive tracking and updating of the International Initiatives Database.
  • Identify and prioritize institutional participation in ICOM, CIMAM, and other international convenings.
  • Identify and foster strategic international partnerships, including those with foundations and universities.
  • Coordinate efforts with other Met staff working internationally, including the Director’s Office, the Project Manager, Traveling Exhibitions, and the Manager, International Education Initiatives.
  • Participate in and help organize international travel, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations, Global Studies, Arts & Cultural Management or Art History required, Masters or equivalent preferred.
  • 10 years’ experience in international project management, including fundraising initiatives
  • Significant experience in developing, managing, and deepening relationships with high-potential donors and prospects and key diplomatic partners
  • Extensive familiarity with the New York cultural, philanthropic, and social committees, and ability to develop broader networks internationally
  • Demonstrated abilities as a motivated, detail oriented self-starter who can also work as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in at least one language in addition to English; additional languages a plus
  • Ability to successfully represent The Met internationally within a range of diplomatic opportunities
  • Experience organizing international trips is preferable
  • Fluency with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Tessitura

COMPENSATION RANGE:

  • Pay Range: $150,000.00 – $175,000.00 / Annually
  • The advertised pay scale reflects the good faith minimum and maximum salary range for this role. The advertised pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage for any specific employee. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, special licensing or qualifications, and other factors.

Location Requirements

At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
