Total Salary Range: $295,470 to $388,517 (pro rata for part-time positions) excluding Attraction and Retention Incentive

Base Salary: $188,151 to $254,198 (pro rata for part-time). The starting salary will be negotiated based on the candidate’s experience and expertise.

Additional Allowances: Includes a Private Practice Scheme Allowance, Level 1 Management Allowance and an on-call allowance (17.4% of base salary plus Private Practice Allowance).

Superannuation: 11.5% of the base salary.

About the Hospital:

North Canberra Hospital (formerly Calvary Public Hospital Bruce) and Clare Holland House are now run and operated by Canberra Health Services (CHS)

This is a significant milestone as the ACT Government moves towards delivering a new billion-dollar hospital on Canberra’s north side.

The current North Canberra Hospital is a level 4 hospital that provides a range of acute and sub-acute services including community based care to the residents of the northside of Canberra and Southern NSW. North Canberra Hospital (NCH) is a 270 public hospital located in Canberra’s expanding northside. North Canberra Hospital operates a 24 hour Emergency Department. Inpatient services include general medicine, surgery, maternity, mental health and critical care.

Other service modalities include day surgery, specialist outpatient clinics, Hospital in the Home and the Geriatric Rapid Acute Care Evaluation service that reaches into aged care facilities across the ACT.

The new north side Hospital will be built on the existing Calvary Hospital campus in Bruce. It will be a modern, state-of-the-art hospital for patients, visitors and its workforce and will provide more beds and increased services. Until then, it’s business as usual at the NCH, and we’ll keep providing high-quality care to our patients and community.

About the role:

The Specialist Palliative Care Service at Clare Holland House (CHH) provides Tertiary Level Palliative Care to the people of the Australian Capital Territory and surrounding district. The service is offered through several arms including:

• 27 bed Specialist Palliative Care Inpatient Unit.
• Community Specialist Palliate Care Service (CSPCS).

o Home Based Palliative Care (HBPC).

o Palliative Care Specialist Outpatient Clinics.

o Residential Aged Palliative Care Medical and Nursing Consultancy (PEACE).

o Multidisciplinary Motor Neurone Disease Clinic.

• Acute Hospital Consultancy at North Canberra Hospital and participation in the Acute Hospital Consultancy at Canberra Hospital and Health Service (CHHS).
• Palliative Care Research Unit located at Clare Holland House.

The Deputy Medical Director of Palliative Care at NCH will provide support to the Medical Director of Palliative Care. The Deputy Medical Director will be involved in all aspects of management including but not limited to recruitment, rostering, complaints management, policy & procedure management, research, education, service development and all the varied aspects of the day-to-day management of a large multidisciplinary Palliative Care organization.

The Palliative Care Stream provides clinical service through Clare Holland House.

The successful candidate has opportunity for an academic appointment with the Australian National University Medical School (ANUMS) commensurate with academic level. Ongoing involvement in teaching and supervising medical students from the school is an integral part of the leadership role of the service in developing Palliative Care Services in the region.

Clare Holland House is a fully accredited service with RACP/Chapter of Palliative Medicine and currently provides 5 Registrar positions. Rotations in the Inpatient Unit, Community Service and with the Acute Hospital Consultancy Service at Calvary Hospital are fully accredited with the Chapter. Additionally, the service is accredited as a training post for the Diploma in Palliative Medicine and as a Special Skills rotation as part of FRACGP training.

The Deputy Medical Director of Palliative Care also provides clinical guidance and professional leadership across Canberra Health Services.
