The British Embassy in Lisbon is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic, security and consular interests overseas. We are now seeking two world class Digital, Data & Technology Contract Managers to join a Team Driving Digital Excellence Across Government.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is building a new hub in Lisbon dedicated to managing some of the UK government’s most critical technology contracts. We are looking for two talented Contract Managers to help us deliver outstanding commercial outcomes in the fast-moving world of Digital, Data & Technology (DDaT).
What You’ll Do
As a Digital, Data and Technology Contract Manager, you will take ownership of a small portfolio of high-impact contracts that support the UK’s digital transformation. Your role will be central to ensuring suppliers deliver on time, on budget, and to the highest standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing contract management plans and compliance frameworks.
- Monitoring supplier performance and resolving issues before they escalate.
- Supporting negotiations on variations, renewals, and dispute resolution.
- Acting as a trusted adviser to stakeholders, providing clear commercial guidance.
- Championing best practice and driving continuous improvement across the contract lifecycle.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Our ideal candidate shows:
- Full professional proficiency in English written and spoken C1 level for the CEFR*
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience sourcing or contract management, ideally in DDaT sector.
- Experience in Digital, Data and Technology sector, either as a buyer or supplier.
- University Degree or equivalent experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business, Information Technology, Economics, Finance or similar.
- Proven experience in influencing internal and external stakeholders with strong customer service skills and experience in guiding and supporting non- commercial staff.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret complex data and commercial models to inform decision-making.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Nice to have:
- Formal qualification in Procurement or Commercial discipline (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply CIPS or its equivalent).
- Knowledge of relevant UK and EU procurement legislation.
- Leadership and Management Skills: demonstrable line management experience.
- Working Internationally: previous experience working in a procurement capacity which is regional/international and beyond domestic market.
- Experience of working with e-procurement tools.

This is a permanent, full-time contract (35 hours net per week) subject to 180 days probation period.
This role is based in Lisbon, with occasional travel required to London, Scotland, and Vilnius. We are flexible on travel requirements and open to discussing individual circumstances.
The British Embassy in Lisbon aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role of € 48,503.48 gross annual salary paid in fourteen instalments; plus a monthly meal allowance of €193.60. This salary is payable if the successful candidate is subject to individual income tax (IRS) in Portugal on the employment income in question. If the successful candidate is not subject to individual income tax (IRS) on their employment income in Portugal, and/or is not taxable elsewhere on such income, he / she will receive the above salary minus a reference amount approximate to the level of Portuguese tax that would be applicable if the income were subject to tax locally. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.
All staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Portugal are subject to local Portuguese employment law as well as internal regulations in force at any given time.
The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorisation for Portugal in order to apply.

The Embassy will not consider applications from existing staff who have not successfully completed their probation period or, in the case of staff on temporary contract who have not yet completed two thirds of their contract.
Candidates should note that the FCDO operates within a regulated sector for procurement and under English Law. Training will be provided on the UK’s legal framework. However, skills and experience in the principles of contract management will be an essential foundation.
