General Summary
Provides leadership in strategic planning, analysis, development, support, implementation and evaluation of information technology initiatives, services and other activities related to clinical information systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Directs and oversees the planning, design, development, support, and implementation of the electronic health record, clinical technologies, and promotes the automation and adoption of clinical processes. Serves as the nursing and clinical operational representative for process redesign and clinical workflow.
- Provides input and oversees clinical application enhancement requests to ensure that the requests are appropriate, and the improvement efforts are coordinated between campuses and are aligned with and support system goals and initiatives.
- Responsible for the critical analysis of issues evolving as a result of implementation of process redesign and/or clinical information/technology systems in order to maintain quality of service and efficient use of resources.
- Assumes a leadership role by collaborating and communicating with all levels of the organization to facilitate the accomplishment of the EHR project goals, IT organizational goals, and the health system’s strategic goals.
- Supervises the Clinical Informatics staff and Physician Informatic Training Support (PITSL) Staff, providing leadership, guidance, and resource management. Coordinates and evaluates projects within the clinical informatics and PITSL team.
- Analyzes complex situations, establishes priorities, identifies necessary resource, and manages large projects to their successful completion. Able to anticipate and recognize issues or project problems and react quickly to solve them.
- Acts as the primary liaison between IT and the clinical staff to ensure that the EHR is optimized based on clinical workflow redesign.
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of current trends and issues in health care, nursing practice, Clinical Informatics, JCAHO standards; DNV standards, system-wide policies and procedures as related to clinical practice, and the legal implications of the EHR; and clinical applications currently in use and their relationship to other information systems as well as new developments in hardware and software technology.
- Maintains membership on, or consultation to, committees, work groups or task forces as needed to communicate and facilitate the ongoing progress of the development, implementation, and revision of the EHR.
- Maintains an advanced understanding and working knowledge of the current EHR and clinical technologies, their functions, and relationships to other information systems within the organization.
- Collaborates and participates in the strategic planning process for the implementation of a comprehensive EHR that crosses the System’s operational divisions.

- Recommends staffing levels, selects, and assigns staff, evaluates performance, evaluates/tests competencies (as applicable), provides orientation, training, and continuing education of staff, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.

Qualifications
Minimum Education:
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing or related field Required
- Masters Degree In Nursing, clinical discipline, clinical informatics, or related field Preferred
Work Experience:
- A minimum of six years experience, with at least 3 years clinical nursing and at least 3 years leadership experience Required
- 2 years nursing informatics/clinical IT type role Preferred.
Licenses:
- Licensed Registered Nurse Upon Hire Required or
- Registered Nurse Multi State License Upon Hire Required
Courses and Training:
- Certification in Nursing Informatics Upon Hire Preferred
