Why This Role May Interest You

This role offers the opportunity to shape the commercial strategy and risk profile of one of North America’s largest and fastest-growing renewable energy portfolios. Rather than focusing on a single asset, market, or transaction, you will help guide strategy across a diverse portfolio of wind, solar, and battery storage assets operating in multiple wholesale power markets.

If you enjoy turning market insights into business value, evaluating complex commercial opportunities, and helping organizations make informed strategic choices, you’ll find meaningful work here. Your expertise will help guide investment decisions, optimize portfolio performance, manage market risk, and support ENGIE’s continued growth in renewable energy across North America.

Evergreen Note

This evergreen posting is designed to connect with experienced commercial, market risk, portfolio optimization, energy trading, and renewable energy professionals interested in future opportunities with ENGIE in Houston, TX. By applying, you may be considered for current or future leadership opportunities supporting ENGIE’s growing renewable energy portfolio and commercial strategy initiatives. If you are seeking immediate opportunities across ENGIE, we invite you to visit our ENGIE career page to explore current opportunities.

What You Can Expect

As a Director, Commercial & Market Risk, you will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, helping evaluate market opportunities, commercial strategies, and portfolio risks across ENGIE’s growing renewable energy business. You will help drive value creation, portfolio optimization, and risk-informed decision-making across a diverse portfolio of wind, solar, battery storage, and emerging energy technologies.

Partnering closely with teams across Energy Management, Asset Management, Origination, Trading, Finance, Development, and Commercial Operations, you will identify opportunities to enhance asset value, evaluate market exposures, and support strategies that balance risk and return throughout the investment lifecycle.

Success in this role requires strategic thinking, commercial acumen, market expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to influence stakeholders across a complex and evolving energy landscape.

What You Will Do

Commercial Strategy & Value Creation

  • Lead commercial initiatives that maximize portfolio value across renewable energy assets, environmental products, energy market opportunities, and emerging technologies
  • Partner with commercial, trading, origination, and asset management teams to identify and execute strategies that enhance revenue, improve asset performance, and support long-term business objectives
  • Evaluate new business opportunities, commercial structures, and market innovations to support portfolio growth and value creation

Market Risk Management

  • Establish and oversee market risk frameworks that identify, evaluate, monitor, and mitigate exposure across ENGIE’s renewable energy portfolio
  • Provide commercial and market risk guidance for investment decisions, development activities, commercial agreements, and portfolio optimization strategies
  • Review market assumptions, pricing strategies, and risk mitigation approaches to support informed decision-making and balanced portfolio performance

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead, develop, and mentor high-performing teams by fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous learning, and inclusion
  • Build trusted relationships across ENGIE and with external stakeholders, serving as a strategic advisor who drives alignment and influences decision-making
  • Communicate complex commercial and market insights to executive leadership in a clear, actionable, and business-focused manner

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degrees or relevant professional certifications are welcomed
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience within power markets, energy, renewable energy, energy trading, asset management, market risk, portfolio management, commercial strategy, or related disciplines
  • Experience evaluating market opportunities, commercial risks, and value creation initiatives, with a demonstrated ability to develop and execute commercial strategies that support business growth, portfolio optimization, and risk-adjusted decision-making
  • Knowledge of wholesale power markets, energy market fundamentals, market risk frameworks, hedging concepts, and revenue optimization strategies
  • Experience working with renewable energy project structures, commercial agreements, and financial considerations that influence asset performance and investment outcomes
  • Effective leadership, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills with the ability to influence decisions across diverse business functions
  • Strong analytical capabilities and experience utilizing data, quantitative analysis, market intelligence, and digital tools to support strategic decision-making
  • Passion for advancing renewable energy solutions and supporting the transition to a lower-carbon energy future
