Temple University’s Department of Government and Community Relations is searching for a Director of City and Community Relations (DCCR)

position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of Government and Community Relations (VPGCR), the Director, City and Community Relations (DCCR) will facilitate and strengthen the work of the existing Community Relations team through the alignment of its work and strategy with departmental partners on government relations at the state and federal levels.

The Director will serve as the VP’s primary liaison with the Community Impact team and as a connector, ensuring alignment amongst the community relations, government relations, and community impact teams, facilitating regular communications, identification of priorities, and deployment of resources in service of university and community goals as directed by and in consultation with the VP GCR. The Director will assist the VPGCR in the development and cultivation of external relationships within the local Temple University community’s Main Campus and the region surrounding Temple University’s footprint.

The incumbent will support the initiatives of both GCR’s community relations team and government relations team to bridge university relationships and engagement efforts across all community, government and business stakeholders to build fruitful relationships and effectively communicate Temple’s strategic plan, university development priorities, community engagement programs, as well as solve for community concerns such as the town gown issues arising from living in close proximity to college age students.

The Director will have strong ties and existing relationships with government and community leadership within Philadelphia and the North Philadelphia community that touches Temple University and Temple University Health System and demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive symbiotic relationships between institutions and surrounding communities.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required education and experience: A bachelor’s degree and at least seven (7) years of related experience in government/community relations. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must demonstrate a strong understanding of government and community policy engagement and dynamics. Must possess a proven track record of successfully establishing and maintaining strong government and community relationships.

Preferred Education and Experience:

*Experience in Philadelphia, government, and community relations is strongly preferred.

*Strong work ethic, encouraging teamwork and innovation through adaptability, flexibility, and diplomacy.

*Must possess superior written, verbal communication, presentation, and strategic planning skills.

Salary Range: $85,100 to $150,000

A variety of important factors are reviewed by HR when considering salary, including job duties, the applicant’s education and experience, all relevant internal equity considerations, department budget, and funding source.
