RAND is seeking a Director of Corporate Planning and Analysis. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Finance & Operations, the Corporate Planning & Analysis team manages the business planning process, advises senior leadership on how to shape the plans of research divisions and enterprise businessfunctions, identifies and analyzes variance to plans, and conducts analysis to support corporate decision-making involving strategic shifts, major investments, internal operations, and business and market development.

Specific Duties

– Managing the annual three-year rolling business planning process including:

  • Designing, improving, documenting, and implementing business planning policies.

  • Coordinating and presenting plans to senior leadership.

  • Assessing division and department plan submissions, recommending revisions based upon business analysis, and advising senior leadership on recommended changes.

  • Acting as liaison between the SVP and division and department leaders.

– Identifying and analyzing variances to business plans and developing associated recommendations for divisions, departments, and senior leadership.

– Coordinating the development and tracking of financial performance metrics across the enterprise, particularly with Finance and Accounting.

– Conducting sophisticated business analyses to support senior leadership decisions regarding strategy, investments, and internal operations.

– Conducting analysis upon request to help improve RAND’s competitiveness and business outcomes to include:

  • Identifying key competitiveness issues and business opportunities for further analysis.

  • Assessing the value of pursuing general and specific market opportunities and providing associated decision support to research divisions.

  • Developing information about clients and competitors to inform business decisions.

-Lead outreach and education efforts to help other parts of the organization understand RAND’s financial structure and the implications of operational changes.

Management

As the team leader, the director will be responsible for ensuring RAND maintains a strong team of trusted financial planning/corporate planning advisors to senior leadership to help the organization make evidence-based long-term decisions. As such the director will be responsible for managing staff, conducting performance reviews, hiring staff, and providing guidance, training, and mentoring to help attract, retain, and develop a diverse high performing team.

Qualifications

  • A demonstrated track record of effective team leadership of diverse, highly skilled financial management professionals; attracting, selecting, and developing people; collaborating and influencing across matrix organizations; and planning and analysis that has led to successful corporate decisions and business outcomes.

  • Ability to demonstrate bringing a big-picture perspective to planning and analysis while also maintaining strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize effectively across a broad range of potential activity and must be financially astute with strong quantitative analytical skills.

  • Superior communication, listening, and influencing abilities are equally critical so that the director can constructively engage and partner well with senior executives and a broad array of diverse RAND staff across the enterprise.

Education Requirements

Bachelor”s Degree required; MBA or related Master”s Degree preferred

Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have experience in an organization that conducts applied research or consulting focused on public policy impact potentially in federally funded research and development centers, universities, think tanks, research institutes, and consulting firms.

  • Minimum requirements include 10 years of related experience with at least 5 years of supervisory experience required, preferably in Financial and Corporate planning or a closely related area.

Santa Monica, CA (preferred); Pittsburgh, PA; Washington, DC

Hybrid work arrangement: A mix of time in the office and working from home.

Salary Range: $205,700-$320,600

RAND considers a variety of factors when formulating an offer, including but not limited to, the specific role and associated responsibilities; a candidate’s work experience, education/training, skills, expertise; and internal equity. The salary range includes base pay plus RAND’s sabbatic pay (which provides additional compensation above base pay when vacation is taken).
