Organization Mission

The Government of Nepal has adopted important normative frameworks for women’s human rights, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals, and UN Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 1820. These commitments are enshrined in the Constitution of Nepal and efforts are being taken to ensure that all laws and policies conform with the constitutional provisions on gender equality.

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Established by General Assembly resolution 64/289 of 2 July 2010 on system-wide coherence, with a mandate to assist the Member States and the United Nations system to progress more effectively and efficiently towards the goal of achieving gender equality, women’s empowerment, and upholding women’s rights, UN Women’s global programmatic priorities for the period 2018-2022 are: (a) a comprehensive and dynamic set of global norms, policies and standards on gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls is strengthened and implemented; (b) women lead, participate in and benefit equally from governance systems; (c) women have income security, decent work, and economic autonomy; (d) all women and girls live a life free from all forms of violence; and (e) women

Context

In an era where digital footprints define our existence, online gender-based violence (OGBV) and Technology Facilitated OGBV (TFGBV) cast a long, oppressive shadow on the freedom and safety of women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals. It”s more than a personal struggle; it”s a societal battle that widens the gender digital divide and threatens our collective march towards a just, equitable world.

The Youth Guide To End Online Gender-Based Violence toolkit is an actionable learning and knowledge product developed by the 30 for 2030 Network, a youth and civil society leadership cohort in the Asia-Pacific region supported by UN Women. The toolkit is a downloadable PDF, designed to be easily accessible for anyone to read and utilize to raise awareness.

This online volunteering role has been planned as a partnership between UNWOMEN and UNV in Nepal to help disseminate the message of the toolkit to a broader network.

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of UNWOMEN, 16 Online Volunteers (OVs) will support the outreach efforts for The Youth Guide to End Online Gender-Based Violence toolkit. All campaign materials, templates, and guidance will be based on the same toolkit.

The Online Volunteers will:

– Support in disseminating the toolkit focusing on how to recognize online abuse, how and where to report it, how communities can build safer digital spaces for women and girls, and how to stay safe online by posting content on personal social media accounts to promote among peers, friends, family, and broader networks (expected posting frequency: 2 posts per day).
– Create at least 10 messages of the toolkit in advance into simple, accessible formats, share with the UNWOMEN team for approval, plan social media, and post.
– Track and report engagement metrics daily by updating a shared Google Sheet.

All OV will be asked to attend an orientation session during the week of January 5, and online mobilization is planned for 2 weeks, starting January 12, 2026.

Required Skills and Experience

The candidate should have:
– Active Social Media presence in multiple platforms
– Content development experience to be used on social media
– Experience related to communication and social media is an asset.
