The Directorate-General for Digital Services (DIGIT) is the Commission department tasked with delivering digital services to support both Commission departments and EU institutions, as well as public administrations in EU member states. DIGIT B.l offers digital services focused on data analytics, artificial intelligence, and web content management, providing essential components, platforms, solutions, procurement, and advisory services for the Commission’s digital transformation. The unit contributes to the Commission’s Al strategy and chairs the Interservice Steering Group on Al operationally. It also plays a pivotal role in executing the organisation’s data analytics strategy. Within the unit, the Data & Artificial Intelligence Operations sector is in charge of implementing the strategic vision for corporate digital services in data analytics and Al, offering expert guidance, driving the adoption of innovative solutions using Al, big data, and other emerging technologies, and managing data analytics and Al platforms and products.

WE PROPOSE

Contribute to developing internal rules and procedures, including standard documents and templates.

Monitor developments in ICT technologies (e.g., data analytics, Al, cloud computing) and their influence on standardisation, IP rights, data protection, and privacy. Analyse their impact and liaise with DIGIT’S IT technical units as needed.

Draft data protection clauses for contracts and procurement documents and create agreements tailored to the sector’s requirements.

A highly motivated and experienced candidate, with the capacity to steer strategic developments, lead technical and business teams and engage with stakeholders. Technical specific knowledge, communication and negotiation skills, and flexibility are essential to this position.

This job requires the following competencies and skills:

• Proven expertise in data protection law (GDPR and related regulations) with a strong focus on compliance in IT Systems
• Demonstrated experience conducting risks assessments and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) for IT Systems, particularly those involving Artificial Intelligence.
• Solid understanding of Data and Artificial Intelligence concepts, including machine learning, generative Al and their implications for data privacy and security.
• Relevant certifications (e.g. CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT) would be an advantage
• Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in English.
• Good organisational, negotiation, communication and people management skills.
• Ability to develop and implement strategic undertakings.
• Service-minded attitude.

Unit B.l of DIGIT is seeking to hire one ‘Data Protection Information Technologies Specialist’ for the activities of the ‘Data & Artificial Intelligence Operations’ sector.

As ‘Data Protection Information Technologies Specialist’, the successful candidate will contribute to the implementation of Data Protection policies and procedures by advising on data protection and privacy-related matters with the regards to the products and services of the portfolio of the sector.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Aid in preparing responses to Data Subject Requests, managing personal data breaches, creating and overseeing data processing records, conducting risk assessments, and addressing data protection queries. Collaborate with the DPO and DPCs, assist with awareness and training initiatives, and draft data protection impact assessments, restriction decisions, and guidance.
