WE ARE

Eurostat, one of the Directorates-General of the European Commission, is the statistical office of the European Union. Eurostat’s mission is to provide high quality statistics and data on Europe. Eurostat co-ordinates statistical activities at Union level and more particularly inside the Commission.

Eurostat’s Unit B2 is a small, dynamic team that coordinates a wide range of strategic and governance-related activities across the European statistical landscape. Its main responsibilities include:

  • Governance of the European Statistical System (ESS): Supporting the development and oversight of how official statistics are managed across Europe.
  • Support to Eurostat’s decision-making process: Assisting internal strategic planning and coordination to ensure effective operations.
  • Support to ESS governance bodies:

o European Statistical Governance Advisory Board                             (ESGAB): it  provides

independent advice on the implementation of the European Statistics               Code of

Practice.

o European Statistical Advisory Committee (ESAC): Offers expert opinions on statistical priorities and developments.

  • Quality management in statistics: Promoting, developing, and implementing quality standards across the ESS to ensure reliable and trustworthy data.
  • Implementation of the European Statistics Code of Practice: Ensuring that statistical

activities adhere to principles such as impartiality, reliability, and transparency.

  • Strategic support to Eurostat’s senior management: Contributing to long-term planning and priority-setting, including multi-annual programming within the ESS.
  • Alignment with European Commission priorities: Ensuring that all statistical initiatives are coherent and support broader EU policy goals.

The team that supports ESGAB/ESAC is organized in the format of Secretariat which under leadership of ESGAB and ESAC Chairs organizes regular meetings, events and conferences as well as facilitates production of annual ESGAB report and ESAC Opinions.

 

The unit is highly visible and supports interesting and strategic aspects of Eurostat’s work. There is a frequent engagement with external stakeholders, also at the high level of decision-making. The unit offers a cooperative atmosphere with shared values such as strong service orientation and flexible working environment.

WE PROPOSE

Unit B2 of DG ESTAT is seeking to hire one planning and programming assistant.

The position will consist of:

A very interesting and rewarding position in a small friendly and supportive team responsible for

ensuring the Secretariat for two governance bodies of European Statistical System (ESS): European

Statistical Governance Advisory Board (ESGAB) and the European Statistical Advisory Committee

(ESAC).

Position provides frequent communication with external stakeholders as well as an opportunity for

an interesting insight into the ongoing activities of Eurostat and European Statistical System (ESS).

The main tasks would include:

  • To assist in the preparation, co-ordination and running of regular ESGAB and ESAC meetings as well as seminars/workshops.
  • Follow up in drafting the minutes of meetings, processing administrative aspects and placing regular updates on respective websites.
  • Establish the meetings and seminars/workshops planning process, assist in supervising and monitoring progress and the fulfilment of objectives.
  • Further develop contacts with public and professional bodies in the Member States, international statistical organisations, national and international statistical committees and support in establishing respective networks.
  • Communicate with ESAC and ESGAB members, NSIs and other international organisations (direct information as well as via websites) in a service-oriented manner, providing needed information and support.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual ESGAB report on the compliance with the European Statistics Code of Practice, including necessary research, data collection, surveys, analysis, drafting and dissemination activities.
  • Co-ordinate (and contribute to) the preparation of briefings and speaking points for the Chairpersons, Eurostat’s Director-General and other senior managers.
  • Contribute to the drafting of reports, and opinions, and follow up on decisions.
  • Be a focal point for web-related matters in the ESGAB/ESAC team, including the process of websites revamping.
  • To support the ESGAB/ESAC Secretariat in financial, procurement and budgetary aspects of work.

WE LOOK FOR

We are Looking for an administrative assistant.

The ideal profile for the job is a candidate with professional experience in public administration dealing with variety of assistant tasks. S/he should have at least two years of relevant professional experience.

We look for a dynamic and motivated team member, interested in supporting the two important bodies of European Statistical System (ESS) governance.

The successful candidate should have very good communication, drafting and organisational skills combined with an excellent service culture and sense of confidentiality. Strong sense of responsibility, flexibility and the ability to prioritise and deliver timely results are prerequisites. We expect the candidate to be a very good team player as well as to have the sense of initiative and proactivity. Furthermore, to have attachment to respecting and enforcing deadlines and procedure and experience in coordination processes as well as good communication and inter-personal skills for frequent communication with internal and external stakeholders;

The tasks involve frequent contact with Eurostat management as well as external stakeholders at high level. Diplomacy, good understanding of stakeholders’ needs, and capacity to create and maintain networks are therefore essential. Furthermore, excellent English language (oral and written) as well as good drafting skills are needed. Knowledge of other EU language would be an asset.

Digital proficiency (including dealing with web aspects) and document management skills, as well as knowledge of the Commission’s administrative and financial rules and procedures (ARES, CIRCABC, AGM) would represent a strong asset.
