Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Sustainable Development and Human Settlements Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. The position is focused on environmental, economic, and sustainable development affairs. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region’s economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Division, the Economics Affairs Officer (Environmental Policy) will carry out the following duties: ECONOMIC OR SECTOR ANALYSIS • Develops, collects, interprets, and analyzes specified statistics, qualitative socioeconomic and environmental information. Maintains databases and programmes for database management and organize non-qualitative information on sustainable development issues and trends. • Interprets, applies and, as necessary, adapts environmental information to analyze the effects of alternative policies and assumptions. Accurately analyses current and emerging sustainable development issues obtained by applying sound environmental principles, concepts and regulations. • Drafts specified inputs for technical papers and analytical studies on selected global, regional, national or sector aspects on environmental development policies. • Identifies and analyses legislative and policy proposals relating to assigned topics. • Attends international, regional, and national meetings to collect information and to hold discussions with colleagues in other institutions. • Assist in the organization and servicing of seminars on sustainable development, environmental democracy and others as needed. TECHNICAL COOPERATION • Participates in missions on sustainable development issues, usually as a member of a team. • Prepare documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects. • Engages in technical cooperation activities to contribute to sustainable development and Principle 10 activities. GENERAL • Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work Division´s services. • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in sustainable development or related field. A first-level university degree with a combination of two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Job – Specific Qualification
Specialization in environment and development is desirable. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible relevant experience in sustainable development research and analysis, policy formulation, application of environmental principles in development programmes or related area is required. Experience on sustainable mining in Latin America and the Caribbean is desirable. A minimum of two (2) years or more of experience policy formulation and data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat and Spanish is a working language of ECLAC. For the position advertised, fluency in both English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

United Nations Considerations
According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
