Educational Program Assistant 1 – Insurance Law Center (ILC)

JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut Law School is hiring an Education Programming Assistant to support its Insurance Law Center (ILC). This is a new role, and applicants can expect to work closely, creatively, and collaboratively with the Director of the ILC and other affiliated faculty. The nature of the duties will vary, but responsibilities will include administrative and strategic planning support and executing specific initiatives like conferences and workshops.

The Insurance Law Center (ILC) is the foremost center for the study of insurance law in the world. Located in Hartford, America’s insurance capitol, the ILC draws on its generous endowment and local industry expertise to serve as the premier place to explore big ideas in insurance, through seminars, symposia, and conferences, the ILC promotes cutting edge thought at the intersection of insurance and various other topics—including climate change, cybersecurity, discrimination, and artificial intelligence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic planning support to the ILC.
  • Conducts research and writing projects for the Director of the Insurance Law Center and

other affiliated faculty.

  • Plans and organizes program events, outreach activities, and promotional materials for ILC.
  • Assumes primary responsibility for coordinating business travel.
  • Serves as a resource for students, faculty, and outside groups on matters relating to center activities and travel processing.
  • Prepares and organizes documents for ILC meetings.
  • Develops the ILC calendar and keeps Director apprised of upcoming deadlines and tasks.
  • Performs general office support functions including filing, maintenance of databases and acts as the liaison with the business office.
  • Maintains accurate records, assembles data, and prepares statistical and/or historical reports.
  • Assists in the preparation of budgets and monitors expenditures.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Manages the distance learner academic experience.
  • Onboards adjunct faculty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree and one year of related experience OR Associate degree and two years of experience in a responsible administrative support position.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work independently and solve problems efficiently and effectively.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with others.
  4. Excellent writing and communication skills.
  5. Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Webex/Zoom, Zotero or related software to track, manage, and share knowledge.
  6. Experience in gathering, synthesizing, and presenting information that will inform key strategic decisions.
  7. Demonstrated ability for critical thinking, problem solving, and analysis.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience in higher education.
  2. Experience working in a complex, multi-faceted academic office environment.
  3. Experience with legal research and writing and use of online research tools.
  4. Familiarity with student administrative, academic, financial, travel, and/or payment processing systems.
  5. Ability to expertly manage deadlines and juggle multiple competing priorities.
  6. Interest in the academic profession and/or attending law school.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, permanent position located at the Law School in Hartford. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
