Electrical & Lighting Design Intern- Spring 2026

OUC – The Reliable One, an industry leader and the second-largest municipal utility in Florida, is offering an internship program in the Lighting division.

We are looking for an Electrical & Lighting Design Intern – Spring 2026. During the internship, you will be involved in supporting OUC’s Conventional Lighting group in various capacities, from preparing designs, specifications, and cost estimates for roadway street lighting, parking lot lights, and property site lighting projects in accordance with OUC policy and specifications along with other duties as requested.

Internship Eligibility and Requirements:

• Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university in a degree seeking program.
• Academic status of Sophomore and above.
• Program of study: Electrical Engineering, or Electronic Engineering.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
• Authorized to work in the United States
• Ability to commit to a part-time schedule during January 12, 2026 through May 1, 2026

Primary Functions:

• Creating/modifying a package with AUTOCAD construction drawings, material sheets, and related documentation.
• Extract, create and format various Excel reports from Epets to be utilized during the OUC contractor construction updates meeting
• Assist with customer related phone calls requesting OUC’s lighting or EV services
• Perform various other tasks to support functions within the business unit.
• Plan, coordinate, develop, and implement various projects and strategies to meet business needs.
• Gain hands on and technical knowledge and experience by working on projects and assignments.
• Work collaboratively with assigned team members and cross functional groups to actively learn and train on assigned tasks.

Technical Requirements

• Strong academic foundation in electrical engineering
• Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail
• Self-motivated and proactive; able to work independently with minimal oversight
• Ability to rapidly assess, prioritize, and resolve issues while meeting deadlines
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in a professional context
• Solid analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
• Experience with AutoCAD is a plus
• Familiarity with designing- developing schematics and reference drawings.

Compensation: $18-21 per hour, varies depending the education level

Schedule: Part-Time (up to 25 hours per week) Hybrid
