Result of Service
The consultant will be responsible to deliver the following outputs in a timely manner: 1. Support the substantive and logistical preparation, review and launch of the UN Secretary-General’s UNFSS+4 Stocktaking Report ahead of the UNFSS+4 Stocktaking Moment in July. This includes related strategic planning and various engagements and events around the overall process to ensure a robust and impactful report. 2. Support the creation and implementation of a dissemination strategy of the UN Secretary-General’s UNFSS+4 Stocktaking Report and its recommendations ahead of the Stocktaking Moment, the United Nations General Assembly High-level week in September and concluding at UNFCCC COP30. 3. Submission of substantive documents, background materials, key messages and speeches for the USG for Policy, Chef the Cabinet, Deputy Secretary-General and the Secretary-General, as required for their engagements around the UNFSS+4 Stocktaking Moment and related forums.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall direction of the Director of the Sustainable Development Unit and direct supervision of the Deputy Director, the Consultant will be responsible for the following duties: • Prepare and review the UN Secretary-General’s UNFSS+4 Stocktaking Report, including providing support for the launch of the report and the subsequent dissemination and engagement strategy. • In doing so, the consultant will ensure a consultative and participatory process. S/he will:  Liaise with relevant entities within the UN system, such as the Food Systems Coordination Hub, as well as Member States and other stakeholders (i.e., business, farmers and CSOs) in support of the vision of the UNFSS+4 to serve as a critical step in fostering global food systems transformation, propelling progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  Keep abreast of Food Systems developments, including the preparation for the UNFSS+4 Stocktaking Moment and related fora, and prepare/review substantive materials for advising and briefing senior EOSG leadership and SDU on the food systems transformation landscape in coordination with relevant parts of the United Nations system. Special attention should be given to the UNFCCC process towards COP30, given the strong connectivity between food systems transformation and climate action and accounting for related initiatives launched by the DSG at COP28.  Support the preparation of briefing notes, background papers, analyses, and speeches, and prepare appropriate advice for senior UN management, including providing coherent, consistent and contextualized messaging at the UNFSS+4 Stocktaking Moment, the regional preparatory meetings, the United Nations General Assembly High-level Week and other related fora.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, development, management or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of 15 years or equivalent progressively responsible experience in development in an area of relevance to the topic – food systems, agriculture, social justice, communication, climate action among others, is required. Experience in managing intergovernmental settings including multi-stakeholder partnership processes, and partners from governments, the United Nations, the private sector and/or civil society, as well as in the development and implementation of policies and measures furthering food policies at the international level, including provide strategic advice is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of French or other official languages are desirable.
