Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship

Under the direct authority of the Chief Diversity Officer, as an ESA Graduate Trainee you will provide analytical, administrative and project support in matters related to Diversity & Inclusiveness, which includes:

  • Quantitative research and analysis on diversity challenges in space and STEM fields;
  • Providing research and analysis, including benchmarking on best practices relevant to D&I, for ESA as well as for the space sector and other comparable organisations;
  • Supporting organisation of internal and external events and follow-up;
  • Supplying relevant D&I material and content to ESA staff for external presentations;
  • Supporting implementation and follow-up of corporate communication on D&I, including maintenance of the D&I intranet portal;
  • Establishing and maintaining a database with information, statistics and analysis on D&I.

Education

You should have recently completed or be in the final year of your master’s degree in economics, political/social science or STEM subjects.

Additional requirements

You should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to work in a multicultural environment, both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience of working in international teams can be considered an asset. Your motivation, overall professional perspective and career goals will also be explored during the later stages of the selection process.

You should also have:

  • Knowledge of data analysis and advanced use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Powerpoint
  • Knowledge of the specificities of international organisations, and science and technology driven organisations like ESA
  • Knowledge of ESA’s institutional framework and its position and status as an intergovernmental organisation

According to the ESA Convention, the recruitment of staff must take into account an adequate distribution of posts among nationals of the ESA Member States*. When short-listing for an interview, priority will be given to external candidates from under-represented Member States*.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
