Project Title: Exhibition Coordinator – #EverydayNile Exhibition at the Nile Parade

Duty Station: Cairo, Egypt

Contract Period: 10th – 31st February 2025

Background:

Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) is a German non-profit organisation that implements media development projects in crisis regions. Activities focus on the interplay between conflict, media coverage and reconciliation. MiCT’s services comprise the training of journalists and media producers, programme and content development, radio and film production, magazine and book publishing, as well as media research and monitoring in conflict regions.

“Strengthening Media Capacities and Networks in the Nile Basin” aims to amplify balanced and constructive narratives around water resource management and cooperation in the Nile Basin region. The project is a collaboration between Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT), the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI), and other partners.

The project’s overall objective is to strengthen media capacities and networks in the Nile Basin to support constructive and solution-oriented approaches to water-related conflicts in the Nile Basin.

The specific objectives of the project are:

  • To reach a broad audience of Nile Basin citizens with in-depth, fact-based and constructive reporting on Nile Basin issues.
  • To strengthen and expand the existing network of multimedia Nile Basin journalists and media organisations, widening ownership over the network to include more stakeholders and journalists in the region.
  • To generate incentives for journalists and media houses to engage in more fact-based and constructive reporting on Nile Basin issues.

The Nile Basin Media Network, in collaboration with VeryNile, is organising a parallel #EverydayNile photo exhibition as part of the second Nile Parade. This event celebrates the Nile alongside the Qursaya Island fishing community, highlighting initiatives promoting sustainability and environmental awareness.

The #EverydayNile project, originally curated in 2024, showcases shared experiences of Nile communities, fostering collaboration and understanding across the basin. This year, the exhibition will be hosted in an open-air setting on Qursaya Island, as part of a day featuring a fishermen-led parade, a children’s choir performance, and a movie night by the river.

The Nile Parade is a flagship initiative of Very Nile, empowering local fishermen to collect plastic waste from the Nile and transform Qursaya Island into a hub for environmental activism.

Key Responsibilities:

The selected individual will oversee the coordination and implementation of the #EverydayNile exhibition. Key responsibilities include:

  • Setup: Oversee installation of the exhibition in an open-air format, ensuring durability and aesthetic appeal in the setting.

2. Coordination

  • Liaise with VeryNile, Qursaya Island stakeholders, and other partners.

5. Reporting

  • Experience working with grassroots or environmental projects, particularly in Nile-related water and plastic pollution initiatives.
