The Government of the Republic of Korea (RoK) is a strategic partner of UNHCR, having made its first financial contribution to the organization in 1979. As a former aid recipient who has now become a significant provider of Official Development Assistance (ODA), the Korean Government has made impressive strides in enhancing development cooperation. Over the past few years, it has successfully increased the volume of its humanitarian assistance and ODA. In 2016, the Republic of Korea joined UNHCR’s USD 20 Million Club and has maintained this membership since then.

UNHCR Korea’s External Relations Unit consists of three national staff members: an Associate External Relations Officer, an External Relations Associate, and a Senior External Relations Assistant. The External Relations Intern will work directly under the supervision of the Senior External Relations Assistant to carry out the specific functions outlined below:

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide quality translation of key documents, including press-releases.
  • Support report compilation for internal and external audiences.
  • Support organizations of internal and external events.
  • Draft social media postings.
  • Conduct policy research.
  • Manage and coordinate visibility items.
  • Perform any other duties are required.

Minimum qualifications required

In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.
