Reporting to the Finance & Grants Manager, the Financial Analyst 3 independently performs complex financial, budgetary, and analytical functions to support the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine. As part of a department with an annual operating budget exceeding $111 million and a diverse portfolio of fund sources-including general funds, clinical revenues, extramural grants, and intramural funds-the incumbent provides high-level analytical support to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of the department’s financial operations.
Working under the general guidance of the Finance & Grants Manager, the analyst supports the development, implementation, and monitoring of budgets across clinical, research, and administrative programs. This includes performing detailed variance analyses, revenue forecasting, and expenditure tracking to inform strategic decision-making and operational planning. The incumbent consolidates data from multiple financial and clinical systems (e.g., Aggie Enterprise, Epic, Tableau, Decision Support, etc.) and translates complex financial information into clear and actionable reports for leadership, faculty, and staff.
In collaboration with the Finance & Grants Manager, CAO, and divisional leadership, the incumbent develops recommendations to enhance reimbursement accuracy, reduce denials, and optimize financial performance across all service lines. The Financial Analyst 3 also assists in the preparation of the department’s annual operating budget, long-range financial plans, and periodic faculty or division-level reports that summarize revenues, expenditures, and productivity benchmarks. The incumbent provides data-driven insights that contribute to funding model evaluations, resource allocation decisions, and compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements.
This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, financial acumen within an academic healthcare environment, and the ability to synthesize and communicate complex financial data to diverse stakeholders. The Financial Analyst 3 plays an essential role in supporting the department’s fiscal health and advancing its clinical, research, and educational missions through accurate analysis, reporting, and process improvement.

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. This position deals with residents, faculty, and staff under stressful conditions (i.e., noise, deadlines, interruptions, telephone interference, etc.). This position may require out of state training sessions. Must maintain confidentiality. Vacation time may be restricted during peak periods throughout the academic year. A willingness to work occasional overtime and flex schedule is required. Maintains flexible scheduling as required by workload and departmental needs. References reflect an overall meet or exceeds.
