Georgia-Pacific company is currently hiring a Research Intern with Georgia-Pacific Cellulose in Memphis, TN. This role will support efforts in the Memphis Technology and Innovation Center’s (T&IC). This position will report directly to the Scientific Resources Manager to support high-priority research and development projects for the Memphis T&IC team.
Our Team
The Memphis T&IC is a collaborative team within the Georgia-Pacific (GP) Cellulose business unit. The team focuses on technological developments in pulp and paper industry, innovation projects, and partners with mill teams to drive improvements and new initiatives. We utilize our analytical and technological capabilities to support the R&D arm of the business.
What You Will Do
- Work with R&D team to understand priorities for the business and help with project planning.
- Demonstrate time-management and problem-solving skills to understand the challenges and capability to troubleshoot
- Willingness to learn new skills and techniques
- Prepare, organize, and test samples and report data to stakeholders.
- Adhere to strict safety policies and procedures.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Learn and apply pertinent cellulose chemistry principles.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or pulp and paper chemistry or a related field with experience working in a wet chemistry lab environment.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds on occasion.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with wet chemistry techniques
- Knowledge of Pulp and Paper mill process is a plus.
