GIS Manager – Airport

Job Summary
As the GIS Manager at the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, this position will lead the strategic management of our Geographic Information System (GIS) and Cityworks asset management platform. This role encompasses maintaining the accuracy and functionality of spatial data, streamlining operational workflows, and ensuring compliance with aviation regulations. Additionally, the position will be instrumental in planning and executing operational projects as well as expansion projects, leveraging expertise to enhance safety, efficiency, and the overall passenger experience at our airport. Collaborating with various airport departments and external stakeholders. Plays a pivotal role in shaping the present and future of our airport’s infrastructure and services. Role includes responsibility for MKE and Timmerman Airports.
Hybrid Work Schedule: This position will work in the office Monday/Wednesday/Friday and work remotely on Tuesday/Thursday. Occasional evenings will be required as needed.
Job Responsibilities
- GIS Database Management – Maintain and update Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport’s Geographic Information System (GIS) database. Ensure accuracy and completeness of spatial data related to airport infrastructure.
- Asset Inventory & Tracking – Track and manage airport assets including runways, taxiways, buildings, and utilities. Implement asset tagging and tracking systems to facilitate maintenance and inspections.
- Cityworks Integrations – Integrate GIS data with Cityworks, an asset management system, for streamlined operations. Manage workflows and requests through Cityworks to optimize resource allocation. Lead the integration of GIS data with our Cityworks work and asset management system, streamlining operations and optimizing resources.
- Spatial Analysis – Perform spatial analysis to support airport planning, development, and safety assessments. Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement. GIS Managers use spatial analysis tools to interpret geographic data, extract meaningful insights, and support decision-making processes across various departments.
- Regulatory Compliance – Ensure that airport infrastructure complies with relevant aviation regulations and safety standards. Maintain records and documentation to demonstrate compliance.
- Data Visualization – Create maps and visualizations to communicate spatial data to various stakeholders. Use GIS software and tools to generate informative reports and presentations.
- Training & Documentation – Train airport staff on GIS and Cityworks systems. Maintain documentation and user guides for GIS and Cityworks applications.
- Budget Management – Manage the budget for GIS and Cityworks-related projects and software licenses. Ensure cost-effective utilization of resources.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement – Collaborate with other airport departments and external agencies to share GIS data and expertise. Engage with stakeholders to understand their spatial data needs and provide solutions.
- Application Management – Keep abreast of changes in the asset management and GIS industry. Maintain and evaluate application functionality to ensure optimal system operation. Develop, maintain, and document processes and procedures, including SOP’s and workflows.
- Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 20 lbs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required education, License/Certification and Experiences
- Current residency within the State of Wisconsin upon application required
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required upon application and must be maintained throughout incumbency
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geospatial Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Cartography, Application Development or closely related field required
- Five (5) years or more of work experience in ESRI Enterprise GIS including ArcGIS Pro and Portal applications, Trimble Cityworks Asset Management application and integrations, spatial database design/management required
- Three (3) years or more of work experience in a Supervisory or Management role required
- Advanced knowledge of all related computer and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams required
Preferred Education, License/Certification and Experiences
- GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) certification preferred
- Vendor-specific ESRI certification preferred
- Previous Cloud based computing and application design/management preferred
- Previous SQL Server database design/management preferred
