UNDP is the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development in the UN Development System and serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP’s policy work carried out at HQ, Regional and Country Office levels, forms a contiguous spectrum of deep local knowledge to cutting-edge global perspectives and advocacy. In this context, UNDP invests in the Global Policy Network (GPN), a network of field-based and global technical expertise across a wide range of knowledge domains and in support of the signature solutions and organizational capabilities envisioned in the Strategic Plan. Within the GPN, Governance, Rule of Law and Peacebuilding Hub, leads UNDP’s work on governance, rule of law, human rights and security and conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
Under the framework of the UNDP Global Programme for Strengthening the Rule of Law, Human Rights, Justice, and Security for Sustainable Peace and Development, the Rule of Law and Human Rights (RoLSHR) unit, part of the Governance and Peacebuilding Team at the UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub, focuses on supporting countries in the Asia-Pacific region to strengthen the rule of law and human rights, promote access to justice for all, and advocate for inclusive justice pathways for people and the planet. This work includes enhancing inclusive, effective, and accountable justice institutions and ensuring access to justice for all as part of SDG 16, which aims to foster peaceful, just, and inclusive societies and advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In particular, the hub is implementing a regional critical initiative to promote gender justice and women’s leadership in Thailand, Indonesia, and Lao PDR.
The RoLSHR unit is currently seeking a Communication and Knowledge Management Intern to support knowledge management and the development of communication materials that promote
key areas of the team’s work in 2025, including Gender Justice, Environmental Justice, and Digital Justice. The intern will also assist in the implementation of the regional Community of Practice and expanding social media outreach, managing digital platforms, and coordinating events, policy dialogues, and forums in collaboration with RoLSHR team members. And provide additional support that may be identified by the direct supervisor and the RoLSHR team.
INTERNSHIP OFFICE BACKGROUND
Working with the Governance and Rule of Law team at the UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub (BRH), UNDP Country Offices in target countries, and under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist, the Intern will carry out communications and knowledge management activities to showcase project achievements and promote knowledge on Rule of Law, Justice, Security, and Human Rights among stakeholders, partners, and donors.
DUTIES:
The intern will assist in the following duties and responsibilities.
Communications and Outreach (50%):
- Track viewership and engagement levels on multiple platforms;
- Produce communication and advocacy instruments and materials and organise awareness-raising campaigns, including newsletters, briefing materials and press releases as required;
- As needed, coordinate and support communication activities across countries, ensure consistency of messaging and compliance with UNDP and donor editorial and branding guidelines;
- Develop short- and long-term communication plans, ensure donor and programme visibility and promote project activities;
- Oversee all communication-related activities of projects under RoLHR unit, report on outputs and impact, adjust communications plans and activities based on programme priorities, context development and rising trends in the Asia region.
Knowledge Management and Event Coordination (40%):
- Assist in arranging logistics, preparing agenda and coordinating with related stakeholders for organizing workshops as and when required;
- Assist in maintaining and updating the project’s knowledge management repository;
- Support data collection and analysis on websites, social media and other communication channels for monitoring and evaluation purposes;
- Support as needed the regional Community of Practice of the Governance, Rule of Law, and Peacebuilding Hub, focusing on the rule of law component.
Other (10%):
- Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions to provide input on strategy and content creation;
- Support any other relevant tasks as identified by the supervisor and the RoLHR team.

Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:
• Currently enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or;
• Graduated with a university degree – and if selected, must start the internship within one year after graduation.
• Proven thematic knowledge on Rule of Law and Human Rights in Asia is considered an asset.
Field of study: Communication, Journalism, International Development, Law, Political Science, Sociology, or other related fields in Social Sciences or Humanities.
IT skills:
• Knowledge and proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools;
• Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Powerpoint, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Sway, Airtable or any other data visualization tools.
• Basic knowledge of video editing is a plus.
Language skills:
• Excellent writing and drafting skills in English as well as good communication skills required;
• Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS
“UNDP will not pay interns for the internship but will provide a monthly stipend in accordance with the provisions of the UNDP internship policy (as reference, the stipend for 2024 is set at THB 8,302.50 per month; the stipend amount for 2025 is subject to change); all other expenses connected with it will be borne by the intern or the sponsoring Government or institution.”

• Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
• Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
• Interns must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan;
• Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
• Interns are expected to work full time but flexibility is allowed for education programmes;
• Interns need to obtain financing for subsistence and make own arrangements for internship, travel, VISA, accommodation, etc.
