Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Resident Coordinator System encompasses all organizations of the UN system dealing with operational activities for development, regardless of their formal presence in the country. The UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC) is the designated representative of the UN Secretary-General and leading the UN Country Team (UNCT) and assumes the overall responsibility for – and coordination of – the development activities of the UN system. The UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in the DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO (DRC) brings together all the UN entities working on sustainable development in the country and leads the United Nations Country Team (UNCT). Its main goal is to ensure joint planning and working together and ensure the delivery of tangible results in support of the development agenda of the Government of DRC, through the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, which guides the UN country team’s development program cycle, in joint agreement with the Government. The main functions of the resident coordinator office include but not limited to strategic analysis and planning; oversight of the UN country programming cycle; representation and support of UN Secretariat and UN Agencies including those without formal presence in DRC; support the national coordination systems and processes; development and management of shared operational support services; crisis management preparedness and response; external communication and advocacy; human rights and political Development; joint resource mobilization and fund management; and general UNCT oversight and coordination. The intern will be responsible for finding a suitable location, IT stationery equipment and internet facilities to connect frequently with the RCO. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Responsibilites: The Communication Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Communication Officer. The Communication Intern will assist the UNRC Office, in the fulfilment of its Advocacy and Communication objectives. The Communication Intern will work in close collaboration with the UNCT and result groups chairs in support to the Communications Group. She/he carries out day-to-day work under the direct supervision and advice of the Communication Officer and in accordance with the established policies and procedures. Under the supervision of the communications officer, the intern will prepare communications products and content across multiple platforms to ensuring accurate and consistent messaging, branding, and alignment with the communications strategy. The responsibilities of the internship position will include but are not limited to: • Assist in implementing the communication strategy of the UNCT in DRC. • Spread awareness regarding UN TALK and Strategic partnership Framework platforms among the CSOs, civil society networks, Universities and organizations in DRC. • Strengthen the relationship of the UNRCO with the mass media. • Elaborate products of the communication of the 2030 agenda and Sustainable Development Goals involvement in the office. • Provide the support required to conduct a survey among Congolese students and Youth CSOs about Sustainable Development issues related to DRC. • Write human interest stories and produce digital content for social media platforms, including video scripts. • Support the elaboration of communication products on the HDP nexus approach in DRC • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Preferred studies: PhD, Master, bachelor’s in communication, journalism, digital communications, information science, international relations, public administration or related field. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English and French languages is required for this internship. Knowledge of another UN language would be desirable.
