Duties and Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background; the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to: 1. Media Content Development: Draft media advisories, press releases, press reviews, talking points, statements, and news stories in both English and Arabic, ensuring accuracy and alignment with communication guidelines. 2. Research and Editorial Support: Assist in conducting research, compiling relevant information, and drafting or editing materials for social media content and stories, often under tight deadlines. 3. Digital Media Management: Assist in updating the UNIC-Cairo website and managing social media platforms (Facebook, X (Twitter), YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, and LinkedIn) by posting relevant UN news and events. 4. Social Media Analytics and Engagement: Monitor, analyze, and report on social media performance metrics to assess content impact and optimize engagement strategies. 5. Translation and Localization: Support the translation of information materials and documents between Arabic and English to ensure clear and effective communication across diverse audiences. 6. Event and Media Support: Provide assistance in organizing and executing press conferences, meetings, briefings, and other PR events, while also capturing and archiving photos and videos for media coverage. Additionally, offer support for UNIC-Cairo events and campaigns, as well as other ad-hoc tasks as required.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
English and Arabic are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic are required for the internship.
